A Message from Your Counselors A Message from Your Counselors

Seniors- From Ms ML- If anyone still needs help with their UC or CSU applications that are due soon (Dec 2nd), she will be in room 20 during lunchtime all next week for any last minute questions.

ALL Students-I am echoing what Ms ML said last week below. We only have 20 more days of school this semester. It so important to be:

  • Signing into Schoology and opening up each marking period area under grades to see what missing assignments you have.

  • Counselors will be meeting with students to review the student’s plan as to how they will make up work needed.

ALL Students:

Marking Period 2 ended November 1st and we are officially into our last 6 weeks of school before the end of the semester. Students, this is the VERY last marking period where you will turn in your work to earn the full 5 credits for semester 1. Once we are done with semester one and if you are behind in credits, you will roll over into Accelerate, our remediation online program. While these courses are A-G approved, they are NOT NCAA approved. So if you are a student athlete, you MUST earn your credits in the classes in which you are currently enrolled.

Our own Collin Cameron was the lead in the play “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time” this week. Students were able to see a special showing on Friday! Ask your student about the play! Its a great book to read as well.

I think a great take away from the story is that we can learn that each of us has different ways we learn from each other and interact with each other. Thank you Colin and the theater team for bringing this great story to our community!

A quick plug for the Neurodiversity Club on Mondays in the STEAM building rm 207 run by students with the advisor of Michelle Barbera. Come learn about and celebrate neurodiversity with other students.

Senior Letters of Recommendation: Please connect soon with your counselor for your school report/ letter of recommendation for your colleges if needed. For counselors, we need you to have your college application list in Naviance under "Colleges I am thinking About" and do the senior brag survey. Your counselors and teachers need at least 4 weeks notice before your college application deadlines to prepare.

Attendance Policy Review Attendance Policy Review

zoom_out_map

Regular attendance and classroom participation are essential to the educational process at MHS. Missing class presentations, discussions, lectures, demonstrations and laboratories can be detrimental to student achievement, grades, credit accumulation and the progress of the class itself.

Reporting and Excusing an Absence

When a student is absent, it is required that the parent/guardian either phone the Attendance Office recorder (510-594-2889) or send a note explaining the reason for the absence. If an absence is cleared by phone, it is not necessary to follow up with a note. Only the signatures of the parent(s)/guardian(s) on the student emergency card are permitted on notes. Please provide the following information: first and last name of the student, name of parent, date of absence, the specific classes missed, and the reason for the absence. Parents/Guardians must excuse their student’s absence within three days of the time they return. If an absence is not cleared within that time, the absence will be marked as unexcused. Students are not permitted to excuse themselves on the recorder or by note. Students who miss three or more days of school in succession must present a doctor’s note, if the absences are due to illness.

Giving Campaign Reaches $2 Million—Support Needed to Set Students Up for Success Giving Campaign Reaches $2 Million—Support Needed to Set Students Up for Success

zoom_out_map

PEF is thrilled to share that the annual Giving Campaign has raised an impressive $2 million in contributions. Yet, as we aim to provide outstanding educational resources and opportunities, additional support is needed.

Rick, a parent of a recent Harvard graduate, shared his gratitude for his daughter Genevieve’s education in Piedmont City Unified School District (PUSD). "Our daughter received a top-notch education through her years at Havens, PMS, and PHS, with access to a strong mix of regular, Honors, and AP courses, plus great extracurriculars and friendships," he said.

Success stories from alumni like Genevieve, Chloe Fineman (cast member on "Saturday Night Live"), and Dr. Gary Ruvkun (Nobel Prize winner) highlight the impact of PUSD’s educational support.

What is PPN?

The Piedmont Parents Network (PPN) is a parent-run organization that holds regular meetings to provide parents with the opportunity to meet, connect and discuss issues affecting their child, the school, and our community. Parents participate in discussions that are facilitated by trained parent volunteers who help ensure that conversations are held with mutual respect and discretion. There are PPN groups for 6th to 12th grade. Click here for more information about PPN.

All parents are invited to join a meeting by contacting their Grade-Level PHS PPN Facilitators.
