Principal's Message Principal's Message

Middle and High School Families,

It is hard to believe we have reached the final stretch of the 2025-2026 school year! As I reflect on the past year, I am filled with pride and satisfaction. With this being my first year serving as your principal, I have spent much of my time observing the building and culture here. I have been building relationships with the many different age levels of students from middle schoolers all the way to our seniors. It has been a wonderful journey, and I thank the students and the community for the wonderful welcome throughout this year.

April was a whirlwind of experiences across different aspects of our school. We successfully navigated the state testing window, including the Forward Exam and PreACT Secure, and I want to commend many of our students for the stamina and effort they brought to these assessments. Beyond the classroom, April provided vital career exploration opportunities, from hands-on trade workshops to local job expos, helping our students bridge the gap between their current studies and their future ambitions. We also celebrated our spring with a memorable Prom night. Between Prom and Post-Prom, our students had so many opportunities for having fun with their peers in a safe way. I thank our Junior advisors for organizing such a wonderful Prom and our Junior parents for providing such a wonderful Post-Prom event for our students. This all ran alongside a string of impressive successes across our conference competitions in athletics and forensics. These achievements are a showcase to the focus our students maintain through all various experiences.

Looking ahead to May, we shift our focus to a month of significant finales and celebrations. We begin by honoring our seniors hard work and dedication at our Academic Awards and Scholarship Night on May 6th. This evening is particularly impactful because it represents the support of our local community through scholarships, a reminder that our students’ success is a shared investment. Simultaneously, our high schoolers will be tackling AP testing over the first two weeks of the month, demonstrating their mastery of different subjects after months of preparation with the potential to earn credits in a head start on their college coursework.

The middle of the month brings a vibrant energy to our campus through athletics, arts, and additional educational experiences. Between many athletic competitions through a chaotic spring season and the final notes of our Spring Band and Choir concerts, our students are wrapping up the year strong in their pursuits. Our 7th Grade students will be heading north for the Apostle Islands trip, a unique educational experience put on outside of the classroom! We can't forget our senior wrapping up school with their grand finale on May 30th with Commencement. For them, this is the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another as they take the next steps in life.

As we navigate these final weeks, I ask for your help in keeping our students grounded. It is natural for energy to dip as the finish line nears, but finishing strong is a matter of integrity and habit. Let’s work together to ensure every student completes this year with their best effort! Thank you for your continued partnership and for making my first year at Westfield so memorable.

Sincerely,

Nicholas Ramcheck

5th Grade Orientation Night Update 5th Grade Orientation Night Update

We have and will continue to hold our Middle School Bootcamp for incoming sixth grade students in August. This stated, we also would love to do more to help the big transition from elementary school to middle school! To build on this, we had planned a fifth grade orientation night for parents later this May to help strengthen communication and answer any questions you may have as your student moves up to sixth grade.

This being said, the original date scheduled has had a few significant conflicts brought up. To best serve our community, our leadership team is going to meet this week to identify a different potential date for this event as we are looking forward to hosting as many parents as possible. I would ask that you please understand the difficulty in this task though. Scheduling an event for so many families across buildings with the variety of spring activities is a challenge. Avoiding all potential sources of conflict will be difficult, but we will do our best to find a time that works for as many as possible. If for whatever reason you are unable to make the date, please know that the administrative team is always open to questions and willing to talk if you would like to reach out. Thank you for your understanding.

Teacher Appreciation Week Teacher Appreciation Week

May 4th - 8th is Teacher Appreciation Week!

Teachers are shown to be one of the most influential factors in student success in so many ways. Teachers are mentors who take the additional time to help us process knowledge or practice skills. Teachers are coaches and advisors who share their passions and help provide multiple opportunities for students to grow, compete, learn, and connect. Teachers are individuals who have invested so much into the future of our local communities.

The time they devote to our students is significant and meaningful to so many. The variety of teachers we have is a benefit. It allows for different connections to be fostered across our student body at our school, broadening the impact made. Many of us can still look back and fondly remember at least one teacher who made a difference in our lives.

Life is fast paced and although thanks are given often, it is still nice to read an acknowledgement from someone. We ask you to take a moment if you can spare it to acknowledge a staff member who has made a difference in a student's life from your perspective. Linked below is a Google Form to collect these messages. You can choose to remain anonymous if you prefer or let us know who the message is coming from. We will deliver the message later this week to our staff on your behalf.

On behalf of the administration, thank you for your partnership in this. Our school is only as strong as the relationship between our homes and our classrooms, and I hope to continue to work together to further strength the bonds between us all.

Scholarship and Awards Night: May 6th at 6 PM Scholarship and Awards Night: May 6th at 6 PM

We are quickly coming up to this year's Scholarship and Awards Night. This event is occurring on May 6th, starting at 6 PM. Invites were sent out for the night to awardees. Food will be served for those in attendance as we welcome many of our senior students, their parents, and members of the community in to help celebrate and bridge our students' high school achievements and the futures they have charted for themselves.

Our faculty and staff have spent time carefully selecting recipients for our traditional Department Awards. These honors represent students who have demonstrated exceptional curiosity, grit, and resilience within the various disciplines in our building. Our teachers are excited to honor the students they have been working with for so many years.

Beyond this, we have to call out the absolutely overwhelming support from our local and regional partners. We will be handing out $107,000 dollars across 122 different scholarships this year. This is coming from 65 different sponsors, many of which will be in attendance to help present the awards. The sheer amount being handed out is a great indicator of the generosity of our sponsors and the perceived potential of our students. Whether these funds are earmarked for trade schools, multi-year universities, or specialized certifications, they represent a significant reduction in the financial barriers to entry for our seniors’ next chapters.

We look forward to this night! Please come in through the Sports Lobby entrance. The night will be hosted in our cafeteria and auditorium area.

Scheduling for Next Year Scheduling for Next Year

Over April, the course request window was completed for our students. At this point, our scheduling team has transitioned into the data and design phase of building our master schedule for the upcoming year, planning out sections and placements.

Our primary goal is to balance student requests with the practicalities of staffing and facility usage. We are currently analyzing the thousands of course requests to determine how many sections of each course are required, viewing the master schedule as a complex puzzle where every piece fits precisely to ensure optimal learning environments and a smooth schedule.

During this phase, our counselors or teaching staff may reach out to specific students if we identify a scheduling conflict or feel a different placement better aligns with their academic needs. We ask for your continued patience as we set these in stone, as prioritizing accuracy now in May prevents disruptions from occurring in summer and as the school year begins.

Once the schedules are fully vetted and finalized, they will be released to families and students. We understand that everyone is anxious to see their schedules, and we appreciate your trust as we work to ensure every student at Westfield is positioned for success. Thank you for your ongoing support!

The updated Academic Guide is always available to view on our website. Feel free to access through the link below as well.
