National School Lunch Week
This week, October 12–16, we are celebrating National School Lunch Week 2026 with a focus on healthy choices, nutritious meals, and the amazing people who make lunchtime special!
Our school cafeteria is more than just a place to eat, it's a place to recharge, connect with friends, and fuel up for an awesome day of learning!
A BIG shout-out to our incredible cafeteria team for the hard work, care, and dedication they show our Hawks every single day. You are the real stars of the show!
Let's give a round of applause to our cafeteria crew and celebrate the important role school meals play in helping our students learn, grow, and soar!
Want to make our cafeteria staff's day? Challenge your student to give a lunchroom shout-out, say a big THANK YOU, or share a compliment! Who knows…a little kindness might just be the best thing on the menu!
Mark Your Calendar For This Tuesday
Join us this Tuesday, October 13, from 5 to 6:30 PM in the school cafeteria. This is our first Community Night of the year. We will have free meals and games for everyone. It's also a time to get homework done and tutoring, if needed.
Games will be "Minute to Win It" games. You don't want to miss the fun. This is for all students (all ages) and families in the North Buncombe district.
After School Bus Service
We are excited to share that North Buncombe Middle School is offering an after school activity bus on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, departing campus at 4:05 p.m. This is a great opportunity for students who stay after school for tutoring, Study Lab, or after school clubs to take advantage of these extra learning and enrichment opportunities without having to arrange a ride home. If your child is interested in riding the after school bus or if you have questions about this service, please reach out to our Assistant Principal, Suzette Takei.
Sock-Tober Begins Soon
The NBMS Beta Club will sponsor our annual SockTober service project beginning October 19. We partner with the Western Carolina Rescue Ministry for this project.
Donations (new socks only) will be collected between October 19 and October 31. Bring one pair or a pair, any donation helps! We will share more information in next week's newsletter.
What is LineWize
At North Buncombe Middle School, the safety and well-being of our students is always a top priority. We utilize Linewize, a technology monitoring program that helps us keep students safe while using school-issued devices. Linewize can alert school administrators when students type potentially harmful, threatening, inappropriate, or concerning language, allowing us to follow up and provide support when needed
While technology is an important tool for learning, it is also important that students understand the responsibility that comes with using it appropriately. I encourage parents to have conversations with their children about digital citizenship, making positive choices online, and using respectful language in all forms of communication. Together, we can help our Hawks stay safe, make good choices, and use technology in ways that support learning and positive relationships!
BCS Policy Highlight
As you know, video cameras are used in common areas throughout our school to help support the safety and security of our students and staff. On October 1, 2026, the Board of Education adopted Policy 7325, "Video and Audio Recording by Employees," to formally establish guidelines for these systems. The policy does not change how our cameras are used, rather it provides a clear framework for their continued use. We appreciate your partnership in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all.
