ParentVUE Update - Attendance by Parents ParentVUE Update - Attendance by Parents

📚 New Attendance Feature in ParentVUE

We’re excited to share that Argyle Middle School has been selected to use a new ParentVUE attendance feature! Families can now submit their student’s all-day absence directly through ParentVUE and upload supporting documentation, such as a doctor’s note, when needed.

A few important reminders:

  • ParentVUE is ONLY for all-day absences. It should not be used to report tardies or early dismissals.
  • Tardies & Early Dismissals: Please email our Attendance Secretary, Mrs. Patricia Hernandez at Patricia_V_Hernandez@mcpsmd.org or contact the main office.
  • When submitting an absence in ParentVUE, please include a brief explanation in the Notes/Comments section.
  • If using the Illness (P) code for an absence of more than 3 days, an official doctor’s note must be provided.
  • Currently, only attendance codes below are available for families to select.

Absent (P)

Fam Emerg/Death (P)

Illness (P)

Medical Appt (P)

Religious Observ (P)

If your student’s absence does not fit one of these available codes, please contact Mrs. Patricia Hernandez at Patricia_V_Hernandez@mcpsmd.org or the main office (240)740-6370 for assistance.

Attendance Matters. Being Present Matters. Every Day Matters

We get it, mornings can be hectic. Alarm clocks don’t cooperate, shoes disappear and sometimes getting everyone out the door deserves its own trophy. But being in school really does matter.
Every day in class is another chance to learn something new, see friends, connect with teachers and keep moving forward. And those “just a day here and there” absences? They can add up fast. Missing 10% of the school year, 17 days or more, is considered chronic absenteeism. That’s not good.

MCPS is a great place to be; it’s a place to belong. We want your student here, connected and part of our school community every day.
Need help?

PSAT 8/9 Coming to 8th Grade! PSAT 8/9 Coming to 8th Grade!

MCPS is excited to offer all 8th grade students the opportunity to take the PSAT 8/9 during the school day on Wednesday October 14, at no cost to families. No student registration is required—MCPS will register students.

The PSAT 8/9 helps students and families understand academic strengths, areas for growth, and progress toward high school, college, and career readiness. Results may also be considered as one factor in admission to criteria-based high school programs.

Schools will share testing dates, expectations, and information about accommodations as the test date approaches. Requests for accommodation will continue to be accepted; information about student testing accommodations can be found here.

Additional information related to the PSAT can be found on the College Board website linked here and by reviewing this overview document.

It’s been an action-packed start to the year in 6th grade science as our young scholars jump headfirst into learning like real scientists! We kicked things off by examining common stereotypes in science, discovering that anyone—regardless of background—can be a scientist and that diverse perspectives lead to better discoveries. Students then put their critical thinking into practice through hands-on STEM challenges, where they learned that failure is just a step toward success. We are excited for fun year ahead in Earth Science!

7th Grade scientists have begun their hydroponics projects. Many groups have started to see their seeds sprouting! We will begin with microscopes this week. Ask your student how they can use a microscope to figure out if something is alive!

8th grade scientists, get ready for fun! In the first 2 weeks, students will become certified "lab scientists" by learning essential lab safety procedures and submitting their signed lab safety contracts. Then we'll launch into our first unit on matter, where students will investigate what matter is, explore its properties, learn to use scientific measuring tools, and discover how matter can change. Expect lots of hands-on experiments, observations, and exciting investigations as we begin the year with real science!

Student Attendance

Parents or guardians should handwrite or email student excuse notes to Ms. Patricia Hernandez, Argyle's attendance secretary. Phone calls will not excuse any absences until a note has been turned in to the main office.

If you have any questions or need to email an excuse note, please get in touch with Argyle's attendance secretary Mrs. Patricia Hernandez at patricia_v_hernandez@mcpsmd.org

Dismissal Policy at Argyle MS

Any requests for early dismissal or dismissal changes for your child cannot be accommodated after 2:45 PM. This cut-off time is necessary to ensure the safety and efficient operation of our school dismissal process.

We understand that there may be occasions when you need to make changes to your child's dismissal plan, but after 2:45 PM, it becomes increasingly challenging to implement these changes without causing disruptions. Please make sure to communicate any changes or early dismissal requests to the school's office well in advance of this time to allow us to make the necessary arrangements. You can contact the main office via email or by phone at (240)740-6370.

Thank you for your continued support for a smooth dismissal process.

SchoolCash Online

Montgomery County Public Schools has transitioned to a new online payment system called SchoolCash Online as its preferred method of payment for all school-related fees.

SchoolCash Online helps parents/guardians and community members pay school-related fees safely, quickly, and easily. SchoolCash Online will help increase efficiency and security at schools by making payments directly into schools’ bank accounts and eliminating the need for teachers to handle money. In addition, once registered, you will be immediately informed about school activities!

The new system puts all of the school-related fees online for purchase so users can make purchases online using a credit card or e-check. A processing fee will be included on all items available for purchase, regardless of the type of payment used on SchoolCash Online or at the school.
