Teachers and ParaEducators of the Year Honored at Board of Education Meeting
Food and Nutrition Department News
The five cafeterias and 36 employees from the Food & Nutrition Department welcome all students back. The New Milford Public School Lunch program is excited about the new school year and has already embraced all the local produce that Connecticut has to offer. We will be using colorful fruits/vegetables from our local farms throughout the year and especially in the next three months.
You can see all the farm fresh produce on the daily “Fruit & Vegetable Tray, " which offers 10 or more different choices. The Vegetable & Fruit stars in September will be corn on the cob, tomatoes, summer squash, zucchini, peppers, lettuce, peaches, watermelon and cantaloupe.
The department would also like to thank all of the hard working farmers that help contribute to the school lunch program and help expose the students to a variety of vegetables/fruit. Mike is the owner of Desantis Farm and always happy to deliver to schools. Most of the produce he delivered on August 28th was picked that morning….it doesn’t get fresher than that!

Peer to Peer
Mr. Best and Mr. Manka led a Peer Mentor training for approximately 40 students on Thursday, September 4th. The mentors discussed the upcoming mentorship that will take place with our 9th graders and new students to NMHS that were identified as needing support on topics such as getting involved in clubs, activities and sports, peer pressure, academic struggles and organizational skills among many other topics. The goal of the mentorship is to provide all students with a sense of belonging. Contact Mr. Best with any students that you feel could benefit from having a mentor at NMHS.
Curriculum Night at NMHS
On September 10th, NMHS hosted its annual Curriculum Night/Open House, and the event was a tremendous success. Parents were warmly welcomed by the NMHS Administration team, along with a special appearance from our school mascot, setting a spirited tone for the evening.
The NMHS PTO went above and beyond in their support, generously donating raffle prizes that added an extra element of excitement to the event. Additionally, Mrs. Schlicher’s Early Childhood/Child Development classes provided childcare in the LLC, engaging children with games and activities throughout the evening.
Overall, it was a highly successful night that showcased the strong partnership between our school, families, and community.

Great Start to 2025-26 School Year at Schaghticoke!
The 2025/26 school year is off to a great start at SMS! We have been focused on pouring the foundation for learning by building relationships among members of our school community. As a school we completed an art installation where every member of the school community had the opportunity to contribute a hand cut out to our better together piece which is displayed outside the cafeteria.
Additionally, each grade level team made a team puzzle. Students and staff decorated puzzle pieces, the puzzles were assembled and hung in the hallways in an area near the team classroom clusters. Seen below are a few of the puzzles that were created by our teams!

We are so happy to be back at school! HPS staff and students kicked off the year with a new theme: We’re Better Together! Teachers and staff kicked off the school year with a staff meeting to discuss the school year and learned about the new reading program, BOOKWORMS! Each class and office received the book, “We’re Better Together” to reiterate to students that the world, the New Milford community, and HPS are better when we work together!
