Meet a Hubbs Teacher: Tammy Twiggs!
This week we got the opportunity to meet with Tamara Twiggs! Tamara is a teacher for GED classes, teaching classes in person, on google meet, as well as hybrid. She worked in Japan for a couple years teaching English before she came to Hubbs in 1997! Tammy’s favorite part about being at Hubbs and working with the students here is being able to see them grow and recognize that they can learn no matter their age. She considers it to be an honor to be part of their graduation and see their persistence through the difficult times of education. She loves to help people recognize that their education can be a steppingstone to different jobs, helping their kids, or even building confidence! She does not have a typical day at Hubbs, since the classes she teaches are at different times of the day! Tammy recognizes that finding time for education may be difficult through jobs, families, and life. Some activities that Tammy finds enjoyable outside of Hubbs are reading (historical fiction is her favorite), trying new foods, and going to see live music and dancing with her husband! Her advice to students is to persist through the difficulties when you are first coming back or starting school. Expect the obstacles and push through them, and you'll reach your goal!
