Message from Principal Rogers Message from Principal Rogers

Hello SIS Families,

It’s officially fall, my favorite season of the year! As shared in last week’s bulletin, we have been observing School Safety Week at SIS. I’m proud of the way our students and staff have approached each drill with focus and seriousness. Practicing our safety procedures helps ensure that everyone understands what to do and feels prepared to respond in the event of an emergency. Thank you to our staff for helping reinforce these expectations and to our students for doing their part to keep our school community safe. As a reminder we will be conducting our Emergency Alert Test tomorrow morning during our Lockdown Drill.

I want to extend a sincere thank you to the families who joined us for Family Orientation last week. It was wonderful to welcome so many of you into the building and provide an opportunity to connect with teachers and learn more about your student’s experience at SIS. Strong family-school partnerships are an important part of student success, and we appreciate the time you took to spend the evening with us.

As we reflect on the event, I would appreciate your feedback. Please take a few minutes to complete this short Family Orientation Feedback Form. Your input will help us identify what worked well and where we can continue to strengthen the experience for families in the future.

Looking ahead, next week our 7th graders will head to Camp Whitcomb Mason for the Outdoor Experience field trip. This long-standing SIS tradition gives students an opportunity to step outside of the classroom, strengthen relationships, practice teamwork, and continue building a sense of community as students from multiple elementary schools come together at SIS. It is always a memorable experience for our students, and I’m looking forward to a great trip!

Also next week, Picture Retake Day is Tuesday, September 29. Please see the information below for additional details.

In closing, Family-Teacher Conferences are right around the corner and will be held on October 13 and 15. More information about conferences and scheduling will be shared in next week’s bulletin.

And one more date to get on your calendar, our SIS Talent Show will take place October 30 and 31! More information about auditions and how students can participate will be coming soon, so stay tuned!

As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support. Please take a few moments to review the important information and updates below, and enjoy the rest of your week! Go Pack Go!

In Partnership,

Tiara Rogers, SIS Principal

8th Grade ELA Honors: Informational Meeting

All 8th graders interested in participating in ELA Honors are invited to an informational meeting this coming Monday, September 28 during the Flex period in Mr. Demeny’s room. This optional opportunity allows students to explore ELA topics in greater depth and at a more rigorous pace, in addition to their regular daily ELA class. For more information, please contact Advanced Learning Coordinator Jennifer Murphy Damm at jdamm@shorewood.k12.wi.us.

Last Call for SIS School Picture Retake Day

Students who were absent on the original picture day (or ones who’d like to try for a different outcome) will be photographed on Picture Retake Day on Tuesday, September 29 during the 1st and 2nd Hours. You must submit this form <<Picture Retake Day Signup>> by 9 a.m. on Friday, September 25 (extended one day) for your student to be on the list for a retake appointment! Retake images will replace the original image for the SIS yearbook.

In Flex Homeroom classes, teachers distributed School Picture proofs and ID cards. Please ask your student for the proof, which includes the link to visit the Scholastic Reflections website to place an order, if you'd like portrait prints. Enter your email address and “your access code” (it’s your child's Student Number, which you can find in Infinite Campus, by asking your student to find it on the sticker in their binder, or by looking on the portrait proof). Please place your order before Monday, October 5, if you care to. Packages will be delivered to school and sent home via Homeroom teachers.

Costa Rica Trip: Application Deadline is September 29

Does your child take Spanish and want to participate in the Costa Rica Trip in the summer of 2027? Applications are due by 4 p.m. on September 29 to Profe Anton! More information is available in your child's Google Classroom Spanish class.

Thank you so much to those who have already donated to the SIS PTO. So far, we have raised $550. We are continuing to ask for donations to support PTO sponsored activities. Without your financial support, we are at risk of not being able to host all of the events that we have done traditionally.

The options for donating to the PTO are as follows:

  1. Donate via Venmo to: @SIS-Oldenburg

  1. Donate via Infinite Campus: From the home page, click on your student’s profile. Click “Fees.” At the bottom of the page, click “Optional Payments.” Select “SIS PTO Donation” and then an amount to add to your cart and pay.

  2. Drop off cash or a check payable to “SIS PTO” at the SIS office.

We have selected the date for the Fall Dance – Friday, November 20 from 6-8pm.

Watch for a sign up genius in the next few weeks with more information on how you can help with decorating, chaperoning, and selling concessions.

Our next PTO meeting will be on Wednesday, October 21 at 5:30 p.m. at Three Lions Pub. All are welcome to attend.

From Previous Bulletins From Previous Bulletins

From the District Nurse

In 2023, Wisconsin passed a law allowing your child’s school to maintain and administer a quick-relief asthma inhaler to treat life-threatening respiratory distress at school. Similarly, Wisconsin law allows schools to stock FDA-approved nasal epinephrine spray (Neffy) as our emergency medication for anaphylaxis. All Shorewood schools now have a stock albuterol inhaler and Neffy, in addition to an epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen). These may be utilized by our health team and first responders for urgent and emergent situations only. These stock medications do not replace the need for students with prescribed emergency medications to have their own at school.

In addition, as we start the year, we wanted to share a few reminders from the health offices:

  • Immunizations: Wisconsin Student Immunization Law (Wis. Stat. § 252.04) requires all students to meet a minimum number of required immunizations to attend school. You may check your child’s records using the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) and use this form to update your child’s information. Immunization requirements can be waived only for health, religious, or personal conviction reasons. Your child's immunization record must meet Wisconsin State requirements by the 30th day of school, 10/14/2026. Either by having your child receive all required immunizations or by filling out, signing, and returning the form waiving immunization to the school.

  • Medications at school: If your child needs to take medication (prescription or over-the-counter) at school, this form must be completed every school year for all prescription, emergency, and over-the-counter medications. Please bring the completed form, with the prescribing provider’s signature for prescriptions, and medication in its original packaging to the main office at your child’s school.

  • Health conditions and support plans: If your child has any medical diagnoses that require specific care, it is important to keep the school informed. Some students may require an Individualized Health Plan (IHP) or an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) at school to help support health needs while they are at school. Medical diagnoses that should be reported include, but are not limited to:

  • Seizure Disorder

  • Severe Allergies (Allergy Action Plan)

  • Asthma (Asthma Action Plan)

  • Diabetes

  • Feeding support needs (G-tube)

  • When to stay home: Please keep your child home if they have:

    • An illness that significantly impacts their ability to learn.

    • A temperature of 100°F or higher.

    • Vomiting

    • Diarrhea

    • Untreated live head lice.

    • A confirmed communicable disease that requires students to stay at home.

Please reach out with any questions you may have related to this information or your child’s specific needs. We look forward to working together to ensure a safe and healthy school year!

Kindly,

Cassandra Gabor

Reporting School Absences and Appointments

We appreciate when guardians report student absences to the SIS office in a timely fashion. Whether your student needs to arrive late, leave school for an appointment, or will be out for the whole day, you now have three ways to report the information so we can keep things flowing smoothly. Please use whatever reporting method is easiest for you!

  1. Leave a voicemail on the attendance line at 414-963-6959
  2. Email sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us
  3. Use the Infinite Campus Portal (More > Absence Requests)

For medical appointments, please submit the slip you receive from the doctor's office after the appointment to the main office, either on paper or via email to sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us.

When your student was in elementary school, it may have seemed natural for you to notify their teacher about absences and appointments. You do not need to do that in grades 7-12. The office will record attendance information in Infinite Campus, where all of your child's teachers will see it.

Refer to the SSD 7-12 Grade Attendance Guidelines

To learn more about reporting student absences through the Infinite Campus website, please click here for a brief introduction or here for a video. The Campus Parent (Infinite Campus app) is available both on the Apple and Google Play stores. If you need help with accessing Infinite Campus, please contact Iris Bohan at ibohan@shorewood.k12.wi.us for assistance.
