Canva & Magic Studio: AI Series #2 (1.24.24)

Canva Takes Over the World!

Funny story, I originally started working on this AI series with one newsletter with a bunch of AI tools. However, when I added Canva and all the AI tools it has introduced, I very quickly realized that Canva needed its own newsletter. The current, updated version of Canva simply has too many AI components that it would have overshadowed all the other notable AI tools.

Broken record time. . . Canva is an OUTSTANDING tool that's gleefully and incredibly free to educators. If you haven't already gotten the memo, Canva allows teachers to make eye-catching, attractive graphics and materials in a multitude of different product types. That's nothing new. Truly, if you know me at all, you know that I wildly love Canva!

What IS new is that month after month, Canva adds, refines and improves new AI tools in what they call "Magic Studio." Below are some of the AI tools that make up Canva's Magic Studio. It's an understatement to say that it's challenging to keep up with all of the innovations! I tried to highlight the features available at this time, but who knows; I may have missed a few. Anyway, I hope that this quickie introduction is a good start to learning more about Canva's AI, but clearly the best way to know more is to get in there & clunk around yourself. I promise that you won't be disappointed!

AI Puts the "Magic" in Magic Studio

Magic Write- Write prompts for what you want & Canva does the rest. It will write a product or products based on the prompt.

(Docs> "Create Blank"> Click the plus sign icon & click "Magic Write")

Magic Design for Presentations- Get a jump on a presentation by telling Canva what you want

(Home Screen> Write the presentation style prompt in the search bar)

Magic Design for Videos- Upload images & video clips and then write a prompt to tell Canva what you want

(Home Screen> "Video"> "Generate Videos Instantly")

Magic Switch- Change products into different formats, sizes and translate projects from one language to another

(Blue toolbar when you're in a project> "Magic Switch"> Choose a checkbox like Transform to a Doc or type in the search box what you want it to do.)

Magic Animate- AI will take into account your content & style and create short animations to integrate into your product

("Animate" > "Magic Animate")

Magic Morph- Change words & shapes based on your prompt.

(Canva App- It is found with images & video products.)

Magic Edit- Add, alter, replace & tweak images with a simple prompt

("Edit Photo"> "Magic Edit"> Highlight the changes in purple and write a prompt about what you want to see changed)

Magic Grab (Image)- This isolates parts of an image making it easier to alter a picture doing things like removing or moving an element.

Grab Text- It's very similar to Magic Grabbing Images. This plucks the text right out of an image and puts it in a text box that you can manipulate.

Magic Expand- This extends an image, background that is missing from the picture.

Magic Media- This allows you to turn prompts into images and videos with one of your free credits. Teachers get 500 Magic Media credits every month!

(Canva App- It is a purple icon found on your Canva global navigation.)

Now THAT"S a whole lotta magic! In my my opinion, the most challenging part of using these tools can be finding out where or how each tool is launched. This is because it's presently not the same with all tools. I did my best to include how to find each tool within Canva. If you can't find out how to use it based on my tips located above in the parentheses, it may not be able to be used in your particular product type.
