Stronger Together

Raising middle and high school students today comes with real challenges, and none of us has to navigate them alone. Parents and caregivers are invited to attend Stronger Together, an evening focused on practical ways to support your child's mental health, strengthen family connection, and prevent substance use.

When: Thursday, October 15, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Where: Los Alamos High School Library

The evening will begin with light refreshments and a brief introduction from each of our speakers. Afterward, you can visit the tables that interest you most, ask your questions directly, and leave with answers and resources you can use at home. You will have the chance to meet:

Our School Resource Officer and local police
Los Alamos JJAB
Middle and high school administrators
Middle and high school counselors
Sources of Strength

Attendees will also be entered to win door prizes, including copies of Brainstorm by Daniel J. Siegel, M.D., and Never Enough by Jennifer Breheny Wallace, generously provided by the Los Alamos JJAB, and a $25 gift card to Samizdat Bookstore & Teahouse. Thank you to both for supporting our families.

Please note this event is for adults only, and childcare will not be provided. Spanish translation is available upon request. / Traducción al español disponible a petición.

If you have questions or would like to request translation, please contact Sylvia Diehl at s.diehl@laschools.net or 505-663-2564.

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be completed by the student and parent/guardian each year. Several scholarship applications also require that the FAFSA be submitted.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, the Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) will be participating in the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The drop off site will be in LAPD’s north parking lot (off Central Avenue).

Please follow the posted signs and drive through to the take back boxes. Please dispose of any trash or empty bottles before dropping off. Labels on bottles do not have to be removed, however if you prefer to remove them, please do so beforehand.

For this event, LAPD will have supplies available to assist the community in at-home disposal of liquids and creams, however, sharps, aerosols/inhalers and any devices with batteries (such as vape pens) will NOT be accepted.

This drug diversion program is part of a national initiative by the DEA. The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications.

This program has been very successful for LAPD and the department is pleased to participate again this fall.

LAPD does have a drop-box located within the police station for those unable to stop by the Oct. 24 drop off event. Direct questions to Cpl. Peter Rogahn at 505.663.1888.
