Some of our 5th graders met after school for the past few months on Friday afternoon for a 5th grade meeting called 5 STAR.

May wrapped up the final meeting with a fun opportunity to make spam musubi, led by Butch and Shaureen.

Here's a recap of what they learned:

January - Caring: learned how people help animals with a visit from Infinite Love Animal Rescue

February - Citizenship: practiced community service through kindness projects, and heard from a local politician

March - Respect: cared for shared spaces by being responsible neighbors by passing out kind notes

April - Responsibility: students learned CPR from the Torrance Fire Department

May - Fairness & Trust: worked cooperatively to make spam musbui

We will have tables set up with the following info:

• PTA membership drive - the more members the more support for our kids + school unity!
• Spiritwear - see what we'll be selling in the fall for Arlington clothing sale
• Adventures in Art (AIA) - learn how to become a docent and teach art throughout the year
• Library - sign up to volunteer in our school library
  
• Room parent - sign up to be the room parent for your child's class, it's a special role!

When you join the PTA, you decide your level of volunteering, it is not required! You can participate in any or all PTA events, it's up to you! You are still showing support to our school.

If you take on a PTA board position at Arlington (there are about 20 of us) then you have the opportunity to organize a full event, attend the monthly board meetings, and vote on the proposed agenda.

At the board meetings, we first propose motions for events (assemblies, field trips, funds, fundraisers) and then we present the events to the association (the larger parent body at one of the performance nights). Once the motions go before the PTA association, they get final approval.

PTA membership will renew in July, as the new fiscal year begins 7/1/2026. Keep an eye out for your renewal email. I find it best to renew right away so it's done and out of the way. Membership will be $10 this year ($10 cash/check, $11 online in TOTEM with a processing fee).
