News from the Principal

Greetings WE Families,

Welcome back after what I hope was a restful break for your family. We had an eventful start to the week. Thank you for your cooperation and quick response to the early dismissal on Monday. The rest of the week settled back into the routines.

Guess what time it is? It's survey time! Each year, we ask our parent community to share their input. The GaDOE School Climate Survey is the measure the GaDOE uses to determine our school's climate, and the results are reported publicly alongside CCRPI results. We require at least 50% of our families to participate in order to receive credit.

Last year, 67.82% of our families completed the Family Survey. I know we can increase that. I know you all know how to show up! Let’s aim for a participation rate of greater than 71%, which would be considered high. We can do it!

Other important upcoming events:

  • December 9th: School Board meeting

  • December 19th: Community Circle - All invited

  • December 19th: Early Release

  • December 22nd - January 5th: Semester Break

From your very grateful principal,

Christine Knox

STAR Assessments

Dear Westchester Families,

During the week of December 8 through December 12, we will be administering the STAR Math, Early Literacy, and Reading tests. STAR is a computerized adaptive test that helps teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child's academic growth. Students take the STAR tests in the fall, winter, and spring. By taking it three times a year, teachers and parents are able to see how their student is growing in the areas of reading and math throughout the school year. We will use this data to help us make informed instructional decisions for our students. The tests will be administered by classroom teachers and proctors in their classrooms. STAR family reports will be shared at the end of December.

If you have any questions please reach out to our Instructional Coach Christie Manasso at cmanasso@csdecatur.net .

🎁🐾 Bulldog Fans — Get Ready for Our First Annual Toy Toss!

This holiday season, our Decatur Bulldogs are teaming up to support Toys for Tots, and we need your help to make our First Annual Toy Toss a huge success!

Join us at the Basketball Game on December 5 and bring a new plush toy to donate. Every CSD Elementary student who brings a toy will receive FREE admission with a paying adult! The JV game tips off at 5 PM.

Then get ready for the highlight of the night: In between games, fans will toss their donated toys onto the court, where our players and cheerleaders will collect them and prepare them for delivery to Toys for Tots. It’s a fun, festive way to give back and show what Bulldog spirit is all about!

Let’s pack the stands, support our teams, and spread holiday cheer across our community. Go Bulldogs!
