HIGH SCHOOL CLASS CROSS-CURRICULAR PROJECT HIGH SCHOOL CLASS CROSS-CURRICULAR PROJECT

Mrs. Fair's conservation class partnered up with Mr. Fair's shop classes to construct their own box calls for turkey hunting. Conservation students have been learning the basics of turkey hunting including types of calls, hunting tactics, calling techniques and more. According to the National Wild Turkey Federation, turkeys can make as many as thirty different sounds; so, hunters often opt to use calls to ensure a successful hunt. Various types of calls can be used including box calls, pot calls, or diaphragm calls. For most beginners, box calls seem to be the easiest to master so that was the chosen call for the classes to build. In addition to gaining basic turkey hunting skills, students discovered that the efforts of the National Wild Turkey Federation have been vital to the conservation and restoration of wild turkeys in North America.
