MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
CHS COMMUNITY,
Congratulations to the both the boys and girls cross country teams for qualifying for regional team race last weekend. The girls placed 3rd and the boys 8th. Regionals will take place this weekend, October 25, at Boardman High School. The girls race will start at 1:30 PM followed by the boys race at 2:15 PM. The girls team was coming off an impressive showing by WINNING the Western Reserve Conference meet. Good luck to our runners this weekend.
DID YOU KNOW....
CHS has 3 awesome organizations for parents and community members to help support our students and get involved at school. The success of so many of our school extra-curricular activities depends on active volunteer groups! Please get involved!
Chardon Athletic Boosters supports all 50+ sports teams at both CHS and CMS. They partner with sports teams to provide uniforms on a rotating schedule (last year: CHS football, CHS Boys Lacrosse, CMS Boys and Girls Basketball & CHS Girls Basketball. This year: CHS Gymnastics, CHS Boys Basketball, CMS Football & CHS Girls Tennis so far!); sponsor the athletic department website/app and other tech that coaches have access to; coordinate and sponsor banners for all of our senior athletes; offer scholarships and more! The Boosters generally meet on the first Monday of each month at CHS. Reach out to chardonboosters@gmail.com or join us for our next meeting on November 3rd.
CHS After Prom & PTO raises money through football, soccer, & basketball concessions to fund our annual Junior/Senior After Prom event, Staff Appreciation Week, scholarships for graduating seniors, and other school-based initiatives benefiting CHS students and staff. Volunteers are needed throughout the school year for concessions help and planning/staffing our After Prom event. Meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Email chardonafterprom@gmail.com if you'd like to get involved.
Chardon Crescendo Club supports all music programs for grades K-12, vocal and instrumental. They provide new equipment, instruments, and cover repairs for our music program; provide funding for students to attend events such as honors bands and choirs; provide enrichment through assemblies, field trips and workshops; and also offer scholarship opportunities for our musicians. Right now the Crescendo Club is helping the Marching Band with fundraisers for their trip to march in the Magic Kingdom Parade at Disney World over spring break. The Crescendo Club meets at 5:30 on the first Tuesday of each month in the CHS library. You can learn more by reaching out to chardoncrescendo@gmail.com.
NO HOMEWORK WEEKEND, OCTOBER 31
We strongly encourage all students to unplug from academics the weekend of 10/31. This is a designated time to step away from schoolwork, relax, recharge, and enjoy quality time with family and friends.
Please help us reinforce this policy by ensuring your student refrains from working on any formal assignments or projects. The goal is to promote a healthy balance between school life and personal well-being.
2026 COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
We are pleased to announce that the Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2026 has been scheduled.
Tuesday, May 19, 7:00 PM @ Parkside Church
SCHEDULING OF STUDENT-ATHLETES
We understand the importance of avoiding conflicts with post-season athletics. I have worked closely with Mr. Doug Higham, our Athletic Director (AD), to select the best date during that week.
Due to the recent division changes in track (Chardon moving from Division 1 to Division 2) and the addition of two new divisions, we currently do not have a concrete date for the District Track Meet.
To secure the venue, we had to reserve the space based on our best estimate that Tuesday, May 19, will be conducive for all students and programs.
Enjoy your weekend!
Mr. Tomco

GREAT LAKES THEATER SCHOOL RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Launched in 1981, Great Lakes Theater’s in-school residency program is now one of the most
successful artist-in-residence programs in the country. Each year, over 16,000 students in over
100 schools experience the pleasure, power, and relevance of classic literature brought to life in
their own classrooms. This week, they visited sophomore English classes to enhance the study of Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible, as well as Theater Arts and AP Seminar classes to enrich performance, public speaking, and team-building skills.
“I always have a lot of fun when the actors come and visit us. It’s something very out of my comfort zone, but the actors make it enjoyable and less awkward. The class also just adds that much more enjoyment. We really got into it, and nobody acted embarrassed or “too cool.” I love how the actors really take the time to make sure we understand what we are saying and acting out. It brings a new perspective to what we’ve already gone over in class. Plus, seeing it and doing it are completely different from just reading it. Also, I thought it was really nice that we honored the real-life people who passed. It added an extra way to view it. It’s so hard to believe that this actually happened and that it’s not just a story. Overall, the actors were amazing and did a great job.” - CHS Sophomore

Thank you again to everyone who attended the meeting last week and who continues to support our students.
As discussed, we're announcing the upcoming departure of Michelle Fisher from her role as PTO and After Prom Chair.
