LMS Family Update
September 7, 2026
Greetings Lockerman Families,
We are off to a great start at LMS and students have already settled into our routines. Thank you for all of your support in giving your child a successful start!
Please remember to ask your child for their Wednesday folder every Wednesday evening. We will be sending home information about our after school programming and clubs next week. There are many great opportunities for your child to get involved and get connected! Being involved in extracurriculars builds social skills and confidence, and improves attendance and overall school satisfaction. Our after school programming will also include opportunities for support in the form of tutoring and mentoring so be on the look out for that information.
This year we are also offering a Parent & Family Workshop Series right here at LMS. These workshops will take place quarterly in the evenings. We will have childcare available for younger siblings, and will provide dinner. Because our first topic is getting parents/guardians connected to PowerSchool to monitor grades and information to support student attendance, the first workshop is next week. If you are looking for ways to better support your child in these areas, please see below for more information and plan to attend next week.
As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.

School Year Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
There are two entrances used in the morning:
8th grade enters through the cafeteria
6th & 7th grade enter through the main entrance at the office
During cold or inclement weather, car riders are allowed to wait inside the cafeteria beginning at 7:15.
Car riders and walkers should be dropped off no earlier than 7:15. Supervision is limited until 7:25. Please follow crossing instructions and do not walk or congregate on the neighbors' property. Students can gather at the town park entrance and wait to cross at the crosswalk.
We dismiss in 3 waves beginning at 2:28. Walkers and car riders are dismissed at approximately 2:37.
Please note, in the afternoon, cars should not be entering from 6th Street onto High Street. The car rider line enters from the opposite direction at the top of the hill. Click for more about car rider procedures including a map to illustrate the car rider pick-up line: https://www.lockermanms.org/o/lms/page/car-rider-procedure

Policy Reminders
Cell Phones
Students will be issued a cell phone pouch on the first day of school in homeroom. Cell phones and wireless earbuds are to be locked in the pouch upon entering the building each day, and remain locked until dismissal.
Dress Code
No hats, hoods, or head coverings are allowed
No midriffs or visible undergarments
Chromebooks
6th grade is the first time students are allowed to take their Chromebooks home! This novelty can make it tempting to misuse the device and/or their CCPS Google accounts. Please remind your child that the Chromebook does not belong to them and is property of CCPS. Accounts are monitored and acceptable use is anything related to school assignments or using email to communicate with staff. Student email accounts should not be used for social purposes. Google applications such as Slides and Docs should also not be used as chat tools. Students should only use their device cameras when instructed to do so by a teacher.
Any damage to the device should be reported to the school immediately.
Students should never give out their log-in information or share access to their Google account. Students who log-in as another student will face computer restrictions. Computer restrictions will be put in place for students who do not meet expectations regarding the use and care of our devices.
Tardies
5 tardies = lunch detention
10 tardies = after school detention
15 tardies = hall restriction/escort
Walk with a purpose and be on time to class!
Toys
Students should not bring toys that cause disruption to school. That would include squishies that can be cut or popped and lose their filling.
Community School Corner
Join us for our first Parent & Family Workshop next Thursday, September 17th at 6:30pm. Learn how to check your child's grades, support attendance, and improve home-school communication. This workshop is intended for adults, but childcare will be available for younger siblings. Dinner from Evelin's Food Truck will be provided at no cost. We hope to see you there!
Attendance Matters
Did you know students who miss 3 or more days of school in the first month of school are far more likely to be chronically absent at the end of the year. Half of the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school! Chronically absent means the student missed 10% or more of the school year. That's 18 days or more and they add up quick!
Why does that matter? Chronic absenteeism leads to course failures, anxiety, and knowledge gaps that quickly snowball. Consistent school attendance is important at all levels. Our middle schoolers are at the age where they start to form habits for themselves. Make good school attendance one of them. Let's start strong in the month of September!
Communication
Our annual Student Information Update Form is officially open! This form allows parents and guardians to review and update their student’s information to ensure that we have the most accurate and up-to-date records and contact information. The form must be completed through the Parent Portal using a web browser at carolinecps.powerschool.com. Check your email for more information. Please review the information for each child enrolled and submit the form for this year no later than September 30, 2026.
Classroom Communication
To keep you informed and involved, we’re continuing to use Rooms, our two-way communication tool that helps you stay connected with your child’s teachers and school staff.
Features include:
SMS Text Notifications
You’ll now receive text message notifications whenever a new message or announcement is sent in Rooms. Each text includes a direct link to view the content in your mobile browser or in the app.

Nutrition
From the Health Suite
The nurse would like to remind everyone that students are not allowed to self-administer medications at school without a doctor's order to self-carry and administer. Having and taking medications without this order is against the code of student conduct and could lead to disciplinary action. Also, all medications given by the nurse must have a doctor's order completed on a Maryland State School Medication Administration Authorization Form. Please feel free to contact the school nurse at 410-479-3277 if you have any questions regarding this policy or would like a form to take to your child's doctor's office.
Our School Based Health Center is Here to Help!
A Message From Your Principal: A Healthy Start Leads to A Successful School Year
The excitement of a new school year is here. Along with shopping for school supplies, meeting teachers, and settling into new routines, I encourage you to put your child's health at the top of your back-to-school checklist.
Healthy students are better prepared to learn, grow, and participate in all that schoo has to offer. Through our partnership with Choptank Health, students enrolled in the School-Based Health Center program have convenient access to quality health care right here on campus.
As you prepare for the first day of school, here are a few ways to help your child get off to a strong start:
• Enroll your student in the School-Based Health Center if they are not already enrolled. Enrollment is free.
• Make sure your child's immunizations are up to date.
• Schedule sports physicals before fall athletic seasons begin.
• Update the School-Based Health Center with any changes to your child's medications, medical
history, or emergency contacts.
• Support healthy habits at home by encouraging nutritious meals, regular physical activity, and
good sleep. Students enrolled in the program also have access to nutrition counseling and
behavioral health services when needed.
Choptank Health's School-Based Health Centers provide comprehensive medical, dental, nutrition, and behavioral health services for enrolled students. Care is coordinated with your child's primary care provider and dentist to ensure they receive the support they need.
To learn more about the School-Based Health Center program or to enroll your student, visit
www.choptankhealth.org/schoolbased. Together, we can help every student begin the school year healthy, confident, and ready to succeed.

Emailing School & District Staff
Spam filters are designed to identify emails that attackers or marketers use to send unwanted or dangerous content. They also throw out malware, malicious, and virus-infested emails and protect user security. Unfortunately, spam filtering is an inexact science that at times blocks legitimate messages.
Should you send an email to a staff member and not receive a reply within a reasonable amount of time (no more than 48 hours), please call the office.
