Week of the Military Child

Mill Creek Intermediate has been recognized as a distinguished Purple School. As part of this distinction, we will celebrate the Week of the Military Child. The Department of Defense Education Activity and school systems across the country will honor the courage and resiliency of military-connected children in the month of April. This year Spirit Week is being recognized on April 15-19, 2024, and Purple Up Day in West Virginia is April 19th, 2024. We thank our military families for the sacrifices that they make for all of us.

SOAR'n Supporters & LSIC

The LSIC is a committee that is meant to assist the school and school system in ensuring that parent, family, business, and community involvement is embedded in all aspects of the school and county strategic improvement plans. It will help to develop and promote the school and school system vision for excellence by being catalysts for innovation and it will represent the voice of the community’s education stakeholders.

At Mill Creek, the LSIC will be working collaboratively with the SOAR'n Supporters (PTO) to plan and implement family involvement activities. We invite all caregivers who would like to help with these activities to attend our quarterly LSIC meetings.

All meetings will be held in the school library at 4pm. The tentative quarterly dates will be:

  • April 10

Will my student earn the SOAR reward?

As a reminder, the Jostens Renaissance Program is a framework of culture where teachers love their job and students thrive in school. It is built on common core values and expectations. At Mill Creek, our Renaissance program is built around the core values of Safety, Ownership, Achievement and Respect. Students and staffulty will receive recognition and rewards when following these core values. Each day, our students will have the opportunity to earn a SOAR point based on these values. You can find the guidelines on the back of their daily folders and check their progress on Class Dojo.

We will host our third nine week SOAR celebration on May 23. In order for your student to earn this reward, they must have earned their daily SOAR point at least 80% of the time. For this nine weeks, your student will need 36 points. Students earn points by being present for a full day of school (unless they have a doctor's note), completing work and showing SOAR'n behavior each day.

You can monitor your child's progress toward meeting this goal on Class Dojo.
