CEDAR HILL WEEKLY SPORTS REPORT December 11, 2023

Zhaiylen Scott Verbally Commits to University of North Texas

Cedar Hill High School senior defensive end/running back Zhaiylen Scott verbally committed to the University of North Texas. Here's a link to the story in the Dallas Morning News and the Denton Record-Chronicle. Signing Day is Wednesday, December 20.

Scott has been a leader for the Longhorns throughout his career. He was called up to the varsity for the 2020 Playoffs in which Cedar Hill reached the 6A-II State Championship Game. In 2021, he played a key role in leading Cedar Hill to an 8-5 record and a trip to the Regional Quarterfinals. As a junior, he excelled even as the team missed the postseason.

This season, Scott primarily played defense but also played running back -- leading the team with nine rushing touchdowns.

UNT finished 5-7 in its first season in the American Athletic Conference with first-year head coach Eric Morris. The Mean Green defeated Tulsa and UAB, respectively, to close out the season.

Cedar Hill Girls Basketball To Open District on Tuesday vs. Legacy

After a challenging non-district schedule, the Cedar Hill High School Girls Basketball Team will open District 6A-11 Competition against Mansfield Legacy (7-9).

"We are a good team that has had to adjust to people being in new roles and new positions," Cedar Hill head girls basketball coach Nicole Collins said. "We had a very tough preseason schedule, and we're still learning how to be consistent and dependable."

The Lady Longhorns (6-8) split with Legacy last season. The Lady Broncos earned the fourth playoff spot in 6A-11 in 2022-2023.

"Legacy has definitely been battle-tested, so the next three games headed into the break will be a good assessment on if we learned what we needed to know on how to win consistently regardless of the opponent," Collins said.

Cedar Hill will visit Mansfield Lake Ridge (9-6) on Friday.
