Week 6: September 14th-18th
A Message from the Principal
As we head into the final week of Progress Report #2, this is an important marker for our students, especially when it comes to UIL eligibility. Student eligibility to participate in athletic and fine arts events will be determined by this progress report, so please encourage your child to attend tutorials, stay on top of assignments, and finish the grading period strong. We also ask our families to continue checking Skyward so you can stay up to date on your child's progress.
We are also wrapping up BOY MAP Testing this week with Science testing Wednesday–Friday. Some students will also be pulled for make-up testing to ensure they complete their Math and Reading MAP assessments. In the coming weeks, we will share more information about your child's progress and how you can access their MAP scores.
A huge thank you to our PTO Platinum Sponsors—Rhythm India, Katy STEM Academy, and Stellar Bank! We are so grateful for the businesses and community partners who support our Jags and help make great things happen at SMS. Spirit Night at Chipotle was a BIG success! Thank you to everyone who came out to support our school. We loved seeing so many students, parents, and families—and even had a Jaguar sighting! Spirit Nights are such a simple way to give back to our school community, and we hope to see even more Jags at our next event.
There is no shortage of ways to show your Jag spirit this week! We have football and volleyball games throughout the week, and our choir will be performing at the Space Cowboys game on Tuesday before their Fall Concert on Wednesday. We hope you will come out and support our Jags whenever you can!
And don't forget about our PTO Fundraiser! We are currently at 20% of our $40,000 goal, with almost $8,000 raised so far. Every dollar goes directly back to Sartartia, and this is our only fundraiser of the year, so we hope you'll consider contributing. There are still a few weeks to help us get there—let's make it happen! Every dollar makes a difference.
Finally, get ready to BLACK OUT the Pep Rally this Friday, September 18! Tickets will be on sale for $5 Thursday and Friday during all lunches. Come ready for grade-level competitions, student performances, Powderpuff, and MORE! Students are encouraged to wear all black and bring your Jag spirit—it's going to be a great week!
Your Proud Principal,
Cholly Oglesby

Level Change Requests
For students who want to change levels (AAC to On-level or On-level to AAC), the window will open on September 2nd and close on October 23rd. Students will need to meet with their grade-level counselor to receive the form. They can submit a meeting request by stopping by the Student Center to complete a form or by visiting with their counselor during lunch. Please see the FBISD policy for leveling down below.
- Leveling down is contingent upon available space in the requested course.
- If the student levels down from a weighted class to a non-weighted class, the exact grade from the weighted class shall transfer to the on-level course with no grade adjustments.
- In the case of failing grades, teachers may assign alternative assignments in order to fulfill a grade change of up to a 70.
- The student has a class average below a 75.
- Requests for those with a 75 or higher with the intent to improve their GPA will not be approved.
- The following must be completed before the submission of a level down form.
- Student, parent, and teacher conference via phone or in person
- A success plan created, attempted, and monitored
- The student must attend a minimum of 3 tutorials
- The student must complete all assignments
