It's hard to believe that January is already behind us, and we are now a little more than half way through the school year! February is full of exciting student and family events with details described below in this newsletter. We look forward to seeing you at as many family events as possible! Please also consider volunteering to help support our students' learning endeavors! Thanks so much!

The mystery continues with this "Principals' Logs: On Target" this New Year as Principal Charlie Jett and Assistant Principal Kristen Noor recap the exciting January 2023.

Many 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students have already formed teams where they read the sixteen designated books from this year’s OBOB book list. Students read the books, and prepare themselves as teams to answer detailed questions about the books in exciting “battles.” It is a glorious celebration of reading!

Volunteers are needed to help run these battles. It’s very simple. One volunteer will read the questions about the books, another volunteer will be a timer (timing how long student teams have to respond to questions), and a third volunteer will score the team and battle points. IT’S THAT EASY! Volunteers will also be provided FREE LUNCH for their services! A short training on how to lead battles will take place on Thursday, February 2nd from 12:30-1:30pm. The battles will take place the following week on Wednesday, February 8th between 9:00am-2:00pm, and Thursday, February 9th between 10:00am-2:00pm. Volunteers do not need to be present for the entire duration of the battles. Please come for whatever time works for you on those days and times! This is an excellent way to engage with our students and support our efforts of increasing literacy in our school! We want ALL our students to be readers!

If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out our school district’s background check form located in English here: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/MzU2ODplbi1VUw== And in Spanish here: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/MzU2ODplcy1VUw==

Also, please contact Cami Romig at cami.romig@springfield.k12.or.us to express your interest. Thanks so much, and Go Otters!

Our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is sponsoring a fun craft-making event on Thursday, February 9th from 5:30-7:00pm! Students and family members may create and decorate crafts and cards as part of Random Acts of Kindness week February 13th-17th. We look forward to seeing you there!

The statewide student immunization exclusion day is Wednesday, February 15th. Families, please make sure your student's immunizations are up to date and on file with our school. We do not want to exclude students on this day. Let's aim for 100% students able to attend! Thanks so much!

Curious what's next for breakfast or lunch? Click the link below under 'Nutrislice Menus!' It's our Springfield District's online system of tracking what meals will be served at our schools. The link will take you specifically to Two Rivers - Dos Rios, and from there simply select breakfast or lunch. Thanks!

We are currently hiring for three (3) Educational Assistant positions! One is a 4.5 hour position, another is a 6 hour position, and the final is a 6.5 hour position. If you, or anyone you know, is interested in supporting our students' learning by leading small group instruction, providing supervision, and assisting teachers, please apply through our school district website through the Human Resources link provided below and access the 'Classified Positions' link. From there locate the link for multiple positions available at Two Rivers - Dos Rios. These types of positions are ideal for anyone who is interested in becoming a teacher!
