Congratulations Seniors! We are so proud of you!
💬 Chapman's Chat 💭
Dear Dacusville families!
We have made it to May! It is one of the busiest months of the year but also one we all enjoy because of all the fun celebrations. This week our 3rd - 5th graders take the Math SC Ready test on Thursday. WE have been working hard to improve our math knowledge and skills so now is the time to show off all that they've learned.
You can help us get our students to give the best effort on these tests by doing the following:
- Bringing them to school each day and on time.
- Ensuring they get plenty of rest the night before
- Making sure they eat a good breakfast either at home or school
- Encouraging your child before they go to bed and especially before they walk out the door to go to school. Tell them you are proud of them and remind them to do their best!
I am proud of our students (and teachers) and I can't wait to see our kiddos show what they know and shine on these assessments!
DON'T FORGET this Friday is Muffins with Mom! I want to say a huge thank you to all of our wonderful DES moms and wish you all a very Happy Mother's Day!
If you ever have any questions or want to provide feedback, please email me at travischapman@pickens.k12.sc.us or you can call me directly at 397-2810.
Sincerely,
Travis A. Chapman

This Week's Positivity Project Parent Connection
Dear Families,
This week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Enthusiasm. Enthusiasm means approaching life with energy and excitement, and it helps bring joy to those around us.
When people are enthusiastic, they show excitement about tasks, making it easier for them and others to stay involved. Enthusiastic people often inspire others, bringing fresh ideas and helping groups work better together.
Enthusiasm is contagious! It can lead to more success and happiness for both individuals and groups. When one person shows enthusiasm, it can encourage others to feel more energized and motivated, too.
To practice and encourage the character strength of enthusiasm at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.
Thank you for your support!

Safety with Standard Response Protocol (SRP)
The School District of Pickens County has expanded its safety program to include the I Love U Guys Foundation’s "Standard Response Protocol" (SRP) to standardize how we communicate and respond to emergencies impacting our campuses and people.
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) provides consistent, clear, and shared language and actions among all students, staff, and first responders that can be applied in any emergency. The SRP is used by schools and institutions across the nation, giving students, staff, parents, communities, and first responders a common language and course of action.
Through this approach, members of the campus community will utilize the five SRP actions to define their decisions when responding to an emergency situation.
These actions are:
HOLD
SECURE
LOCKDOWN
EVACUATE
SHELTER
We invite you to read more about the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) on our website - www.pickens.k12.sc.us/page/standard-response-protocol
Morning and Afternoon Car Line Reminder
Morning Car Line Help
- Please pull up to within 1-2 ft. of the person's bumper in front of you. If you are the first person in the next grouping of cars we ask that you pull past the crosswalk and all the way down to the white cone! - This change alone has allowed us to empty to car line by 7:57 each morning since we started. THANK YOU!
- Stopping traffic to allow a lot of folks to walk across the crosswalk slows down the car line. If you can stay in the car line instead of parking and walking over it will greatly help the line move faster.
- Please be sure your child has all of their things (book bag, lunchbox, etc.) ready to go as soon as you come to a stop.
- If you have a younger child or a child who doesn't want to get out of the car in the mornings please pull up to the white cone and someone will assist you in getting them out.
These 4 actions will help us tremendously. Thank you all for helping us ensure all students arrive on time and safely into the school building.
Afternoon Car Line Reminders
Also, please be sure to have your car tag displayed from your rear view mirror each day. Thank you for your assistance.
