THE PRINCIPAL CHRONICLES
The Principal Chronicles continue ...
Holy Bronco's game. I am not a huge sports fan but how can you not love the way that game went? It is definitely fun to see all of the students dressed up in their football gear and it is equally interesting how many students we have that AREN'T Broncos fans and support another football team. Just don't tell Mrs. Camarillo or Mrs. Tyler, who are two of the biggest football fans we have.
Here at school, we just finished our mid-year conversations with all of our staff members and are about to jump into all of our data conversations with staff. This is the time of year when it is meeting after meeting after meeting. Also, this Thursday, I will be getting my budget, which kicks off the start of the 2026-2027 school year. I can't believe we are looking at a 2027 school year. That sounds so far away.
On the home front, this past weekend, I ran a 5K. Those of you who have been following this useless blog for many years know that I used to run two races a month for years before COVID. I haven't run in one since then, prior to Sunday. I still workout nearly every morning at 5 am, but it has been mostly weightlifting and not so much running. Some friends of mine at the gym convinced me to run with them, so I dusted off the old running shoes and laced them up.
Sunday morning came, and there I was at the start line in freezing temperatures and wearing shorts for no other good reason than my own stupidity, waiting for the race to start. Keep in mind that the people I am running with run all the time and train for racing, unlike me. We started way in the back which is always tough because you have to run through all of the people to find the area where the people are matching the pace you are running. So basically, you are running a 5.5K because you are running back and forth, dodging small children, dogs, walkers, and an occasional Canadian Goose.
In my mind, I was thinking I was just going to run with my friends and see how it goes. My body, on the other hand, realized about .2 miles into the race that I was going REALLY fast and an old man like me can't run that fast anymore, plus I am way fatter than I was when I was racing consistently. I held it together for most of the race, but then when I got to about mile 2.8 out of 3.1, my body was like "nope" and decided that I was going to stop running. So for the first time in my entire life, after running for something like 200 races, I walked. BOOOOOOO. I had to walk for about 5 seconds, and then I felt like a total wimp and started running again. Meanwhile, my friends blew me away and kept going. I did cross the finish line with my tail between my legs, having run the slowest 5K I have ever run in my life. I guess it wasn't too bad. I did get a cool medal, half of a banana, and a box of easy-boil couscous. Why they handed out couscous, I'll never know.
That is it for this week's episode, stay tuned to next week when the Principal Chronicles continues...
