All Met families are invited to attend our Back to School Night on Friday, September 5 from 5:15-7:15! Starting at 5:15, we will have food sales and tables addressing various topics of interest such as the SD Met Foundation, Wellness, Counseling, Internships, and more! Classroom visits will commence at 6:00, and all parents and guardians will have the chance to follow along with their own student’s daily schedule, see their classrooms, and hear from their teachers, who will give an overview of their class.

Parking passes will be emailed out to families early next week. We look forward to seeing all of you next Friday!

Please note: because of time constraints, Back to School Night will be dedicated to short presentations from students. If you would like to have more extensive time to meet with your student's advisor, those will be scheduled for Student-Led Conferences in October. You may also reach out to other teachers for questions or if you would like to schedule a separate meeting.

Class of 2026 Fundraiser @ Back to School Night

Miracle Potion (a Met family business!) will be selling food items and beverages at Back to School Night. Additionally, pizza, chips and drinks will be sold by students from the Class of 2026. Come hungry and support our students!

LCFF Forms - please complete!!!

We are committed to ensuring that every Met student is set up for success—both inside and outside the classroom. One simple way you can support this vision is by completing the LCFF (Local Control Funding Formula) survey. This short survey directly impacts how much state funding our school receives—just two quick questions. No income documentation is required. Your information is completely confidential.

If you haven’t already completed the survey, please choose 1 of 3 ways:

  • Online: you should have received a unique link emailed to you from survey@sandiegounified.org via SurveyMonkey (please check your spam/junk folder if you don’t see this email).
  • PowerSchool Parent Portal: (click HERE for easy access). The LCFF Form icon is located in the lower left corner. If you don't have a Parent Portal account, click HERE to view a tutorial.
  • Paper Form: Click HERE to print out the form, complete and return to the school office.

Please note – if you do not wish to provide this information at this time, please print the form and note “Decline” at the top.

Food on Campus - FREE School Meals for All Students!

All Met students are eligible to receive free school meals, including breakfast and lunch every day! We encourage students to eat well so they can stay focused and healthy! Students simply need to come to our office at the designated service times to pick up a meal. We do require students to sign our log when they pick up a meal so that we are keeping accurate counts. Meal times are as follows:

  • School breakfast is available in the office from 8:00am – 8:25am daily.
  • M/W/F lunch from 12:15pm – 12:45pm
  • T/Th lunch available at 11:30am dismissal

In addition, we always have fresh fruit and snacks on hand in the office for students to pick up for a quick energy boost throughout the day. Please encourage your students to take advantage of FREE food on campus!

Students are always welcome to bring lunch from home as another option.

Please note: Mesa College is now back in full session. Students purchasing food in the Mesa Commons need to be mindful of the longer wait times for food so they will not be tardy to their classes, especially Period 4 after lunch. Waiting for Mesa Commons lunch service is NOT A VALID EXCUSE for being tardy to class!

Students are NOT allowed to have food delivered from delivery services (such as DoorDash, GrubHub, Uber Eats, and similar apps). Though we are located on a college campus, the Met is a CLOSED campus, and students are not allowed to leave campus during school hours without permission, nor are food deliveries or other unauthorized visitors allowed. Please ensure that your students bring food or lunch money so that they can eat well, be healthy, and stay focused on their studies!

Mesa College classes have begun!

Our Met students have completed their first week of classes at Mesa College. We are proud of our relationship with Mesa that gives our Met students almost unlimited access to their entire course catalog. From Philosophy of Women to Intro to Marketing to Statistics, our students are taking full advantage of this unparalleled opportunity to explore interests while earning transferrable college credits. Students should bookmark and regularly check the Met/Mesa Google Classroom for updates, deadlines, and instructions. If you have any questions about Mesa college enrollment, please contact our counselor, Mr. Moravec, at jmoravec@sandi.net.

CaliforniaColleges.edu - Check it out!

The Met is proud to announce SDUSD’s partnership with CaliforniaColleges.edu, which is California’s official college, career, and financial aid planning and application platform. It provides lessons and tools to help students discover goals for life after high school, and make plans to achieve them. It provides a system for students to launch and manage California State University (CSU), University of California (UC), Community College (CC) and financial aid applications. Counselors and families will be able to monitor and support student’s college and financial aid application progress and completion.

The Met's implementation plan will begin with the class of 2026 where students will register and launch their California State University (CSU), University of California (UC) and Community College (CC) applications through CaliforniaColleges.edu. The Met's Counseling Team will work with staff and students to introduce and educate students on how to launch their financial aid (FAFSA or CADAA) and college applications in the fall of 2026.

We encourage all Met students and parents to register for an account (parents can add multiple SDUSD students to monitor their progress) and view the tutorials for college and career planning tools for all grade levels. Students will need to register through their district Clever account, by clicking on the CCGI Tile.

You can find more information about this amazing CaliforniaColleges.edu tool and how to utilize its platform Learn more here.

An all high school production of "The Dark of the Moon" will be performed in February. Look for audition sign ups later this fall. This is a terrific way for our students to participate in a full scale theatrical production with other high school students.

Senior Early Dismissal Policy

As part of supporting our 12th graders in having diverse opportunities for success, the Met has an early dismissal policy for qualified seniors. Students and parents/guardians must submit this Senior Early Dismissal application and await approval by the principal before any early dismissal can begin. Please note that the earliest that seniors may be dismissed is 12:10pm, and early dismissal does not apply on MetUp days (one Friday a month) or other special events that require student attendance until the end of the school day. Please refer to this Senior Early Dismissal Policy document for more details.

Water Bottles available for students!

We have had some hot days, and there will certainly be more to come. Please encourage your students to bring a reusable water bottle and refill it throughout the day. Filling stations are available in I-400 and the SB building, and there is also a water fountain on the exterior of our building, near K208.

In addition, for any student who does not have a reusable water bottle, we have a large supply of new and gently used ones that students are welcome to choose from and keep. Just have them ask for one in the office. Please support your students with staying hydrated while avoiding single-use plastic.

SCHOOL NEWS SCHOOL NEWS

Important Message about Immigration Enforcement

Recent events, including in our neighborhood of Linda Vista, have raised concerns and many questions about the potential impact of immigration enforcement on all of our schools, including the Met. We want to assure our community that the Met and our school district are committed to ensuring that our students are safe and that their rights are protected.

School grounds are safe spaces that cannot be accessed by ICE without a proper, signed warrant. In California, schools cannot ask about immigration status during enrollment or share student records without parental consent or a court order. Every child—documented or not—has the legal right to attend public school in the United States. We will protect that right alongside our school district as well as our partners at Mesa College.

If you are interested in more information about your rights, please take a look at the following SDUSD website: https://www.sdusdequity.com/protecting-students.

Seeking Vice President for SD Met Foundation

The San Diego Met Foundation is our non-profit, parent-driven organization that supports the mission of the Met through fundraising and family engagement. We are a small group that meets every other month so the time commitment is low! We are currently seeking a new Vice President for our Foundation, who supports with our bylaws and assists the President with events such as Back to School Night and Met Monday.

Are you looking for a way to support our community and connect with other parents? Consider nominating yourself for Vice President! For more information, please contact our Foundation President, Lindsay Speaker, at lindsayspeaker@gmail.com or 832-427-2286.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Attendance Procedures - NEW ATTENDANCE REPORTING FORM!

Regular and timely attendance at school and internships is one of the most important factors for your student’s success! Students who are regularly tardy or absent from one or more classes are missing valuable learning time and are much more likely to fall behind and struggle in their studies. As such, we will be contacting parents/guardians for your support if your student is struggling with attendance.

This year, we are implementing an Attendance Reporting Google Form linked here. This will allow parents to quickly and simply report a student absence. Please use this form any time your student will be absent for any part of the day (including whole day absences, as well as late arrival and early dismissal), as well as for multi-day absences (e.g., vacations, illness).

If you have any questions about attendance, please contact us at sdmet@sandi.net.

Chromebooks

Please remind your students to bring their FULLY CHARGED Chromebooks to school every day! Our district’s 1-to-1 Chromebook policy enables every student to have a Chromebook checked out to them exclusively. This means that every student can take their Chromebook home every day, and it is their responsibility to bring them back to school charged and ready to work on every day. If your student forgets to bring their Chromebook, we unfortunately do not have extras to loan out. Your student will be asked to call home to ask for their Chromebook to be brought to school. If it cannot be brought to school by parent/guardian, the student will be able to work on assignments in an alternative format.

Daily Schedule

Please review the regular daily schedule for the school year. All students will attend classes on campus from 8:30am to 3:15pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Tuesdays and Thursdays are dedicated to internships, and ALL students must attend school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 11:30am. NEW students will participate in the Met Gateway Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while RETURNING students will work with their advisor on finding an internship placement. As soon as a student has secured an internship, including a signed contract with the mentor, the student may start attending internship on Tuesdays and Thursdays instead of coming to campus. Our Gateway students are eligible to begin their internships after the conclusion of Gateway, as soon as September 23.

Met Gateway Program for NEW Students

All 9th graders and new transfer students must attend our Gateway program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 11:30am for the first six weeks of school (starting Tuesday, August 12, and ending Thursday, September 18). LTI Gateway teaches our new students how to search for an internship that aligns to their interests and goals, how to use our internship database platform called ImBlaze, and how to interview for and be successful in an internship. In addition, students will experience the Met 101 course, which teaches the skills that students need to become successful Met students. During the Gateway program, students will be supported in scheduling interviews for internships, and the goal is for students to be able to transition directly into an internship by the end of the six weeks or shortly thereafter.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Information

Student drop-off and pick-up is allowed in Lot 1 in the pull-out area in front of I-400, near the bottom of the main staircase. You may also use other areas along Mesa College Circle where there are curb cuts to allow cars to pull off the road. Please DO NOT attempt to drive up to the SD Met building for drop-off or pick-up. If you plan to park and visit the Met, you may park in a 1-hour visitor spot (limited) or use pay stations to purchase an hourly parking permit in Lot 1.

Student Parking Permits

For students who drive to campus and wish to have a parking permit for the semester, the application form is available in the front office. Please bring the completed form with the payment of $40 cash (no card payments are accepted at this time) to the Mesa College police office at Q-100 between 8am and 5pm Mon-Thurs (closed Fridays). The Mesa College is no longer issuing a physical parking permit to keep in your vehicle. Instead, your vehicle will be registered virtually in their new online system for the semester.

PowerSchool Parent Portal

The PowerSchool Parent Portal provides you with access to your student’s grades and current progress. If you need support with setting up your PowerSchool Parent Portal access, please contact Mr. Moravec at jmoravec@sandi.net for support.
