The Riverwalk Roar
The Riverwalk Roar: May, 4th 2025
A Note from Dr. Compton
Happy Sunday, Pride!
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Aside from the Saturday evening storms, it was a great time to be outside—soaking up the sun and staying active. As for my family, we had a memorable weekend helping my oldest daughter, Campbell, get ready for prom. I’m still trying to wrap my head around how we’ve gone from newborn snuggles to junior/senior prom. I’m not loving how fast time is flying!
Before we dive into the week ahead, I want to take a moment to shout out our amazing PTO and all the parents who’ve stepped up to lend a hand this year. We’re fortunate to have incredible students and staff, but it’s that third piece—our parents—that truly completes the Riverwalk Pride. When all three groups work together, we’re at our strongest.
This past week was a perfect example of that.
Parents filled critical roles—partnering with the PTO to provide duty-free lunches for our elementary teachers and volunteering on field trips to ensure students had safe, enriching experiences. Speaking of volunteering, we’re still in need of a few more testing monitors over the next two weeks. If you’re interested, please [click here] to sign up for a day that works for you.
Our teachers also went above and beyond. On Thursday, our high school team hosted another phenomenal student awards ceremony. Then, on Friday evening, our 8th and 9th grade teachers returned to school to chaperone the 8th/9th grade formal.
And our students? They’re making a difference, too. Just ask 10th graders Lucas Poole and Dylan Hawkins, who were both recognized Thursday for their initiative in starting and leading two of our newest after-school clubs.
It truly takes a village—or rather, it takes a Pride.
Speaking of vital contributors, let’s not forget our dedicated school board. These unpaid volunteers help shape Riverwalk Academy’s shared vision, establish policies, and provide oversight by evaluating their only employee, the Head of School—Dr. Compton.
Our board members serve two-year terms, and this June, two elected and two appointed seats are up for renewal. If you’d like to run for one of the elected seats, please complete this nomination form. The election process—from nominations to certifying winners—is managed by the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina.
Nomination deadline: May 9
Candidate profiles shared: May 12
Voting: May 15
Results announced: May 20 board meeting
Pride, in the great words of Justin Timberlake, “It’s gonna be May” (okay, really—it is May), and there’s light at the end of the 2024–25 school year tunnel. We’ve got a busy three and a half weeks ahead, but with your continued support, flexibility, and understanding, we’ll close out this year with tremendous success.
In Pride and Purpose,
~Dr. Compton

Fifth grader Olivia Evans teamed up with Riverwalk staff members Alyssa Long, Amanda Secor, Christina Johnson, and Kathryn Carr to represent Riverwalk at the State’s Collective Leadership Showcase on Thursday. They led a breakout session, shared a poster, and Olivia even got to sit in on a discussion panel. Awesome job, everyone!
