The Academy Avenue Announcements

Dear Academy Families and Friends,

2023 is off to a fast start. Clubs and enrichments are back and Academy is moving quickly through the first month of the new year. This weekend, we saw our first accumulation of the white stuff and it was a staunch reminder to make sure kids are dressing for the cold winter days still yet to come. As always, please give yourself plenty of time in the morning to get to school. Sidewalks and the school driveway may be a bit slippery.

Last week, we held our monthly PBIS celebration, recognizing students who are experts at "giving up the put downs" and know how to use the power of their words to encourage their peers and school staff. In fact, our 5th grade Bucket Fillers Committee took the opportunity to surprise the staff with a wonderful powerpoint presentation thanking all of the staff for the great things they do, day in and out for out students. This week, students are finishing up their winter assessments which the data will be used to help our staff make sure we're reaching all of our students where they are and meeting their needs.

Last but not least, the Community Service Committee wrapped up the annual mitten tree and had successfully collected over 107 donations, from hats to gloves to scarves. It was a huge success!!! Way to give back to our community Academy!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day,

Mr. Higgins
