President's Corner
It has been a pleasure to serve as the President of the Westside Alumni Association. I have been on the WAA board since I planned my 10 year reunion in 2015.
As of January 2024, your new President is Stan Jensen ('06). Other updates to the executive committee include Mark Dudley ('73) to replace Jason Hellman ('90) as Vice President and Laura (Ernst) Beerman ('77) to replace Phyllis (Donaldson) Choat ('65) as Secretary. Marc Lowe ('76) will remain as Treasurer. Finally, I would like to extend a thank you to Lindsey Natvig for her 13 years serving in the critical WAA admin role. And, welcome to Kristi (Thomas) Davis ('93) as the new administrator for our organization. Thank you all for your dedicated service!
If you have a little spare time and would like to be part of something BIG, please consider joining the Westside Alumni Association board of directors! You can contact us at alumni@westside66.net.
There are so many things for Westside Alumni and supporters to be proud of. Our district continues to thrive in the classroom and in competition. Our vast alumni network is out there accomplishing great things to be celebrated. Which is EXACTLY what we will do October 30th, 2024 at the biennial Alumni Hall of Fame Banquet! Be sure to submit your nomination for an OUTSTANDING ALUMNUS on the alumni website.
Go Warriors!

Recap: 2023 Westside Open Golf
On June 26, 2023 nearly 200 Westside alumni, supporters, and golf enthusiasts convened at The Players Club to support the Westside Alumni Association. Complete with lush fairways, fast greens, and lots of sunshine, this year's event was a great success!
We would like to issue a sincere THANK YOU to our presenting sponsors since 2007: The Hawkins Sisters, Kathryn (Hawkins) Anderson ('00) and Patricia (Hawkins) Stillmock ('05), have been dedicated supporters of the Westside Open.
We would also like to send another HUGE thank you to all of our volunteers, sponsors, and golfers!
Funds raised at the Westside Open allow the Westside Alumni Association to recognize outstanding alumni at the biennial Westside Hall of Fame Awards Gala. We are able to sponsor annual scholarships and the Senior graduation breakfast at WHS.
SAVE THE DATE: The 2024 Westside Open will have a 1pm shotgun start on June 10th at Oak Hills Country Club.

A letter from Superintendent Dr. Lucas
Westside COMMUNITY Schools is a special place and it is that "community" piece that is so important. As someone who has worked in six different school districts in two different states, I often get asked what makes Westside different. It's the people, the community, the support, the tradition, and the pride that we all take in that beautiful and bold Westside "W." We are working hard to make our alumni proud. Our students realize that all of us involved with Westside have a tremendous responsibility to live up to the high standards that those who came before us have set. Our students are well aware of the positive impact that Westside alumni make all across the globe in a variety of settings. Our current strategic plan is helping guide us as we move forward with the founding pillars of our school district in mind; innovation, excellence, and community. There's no better place to be than Westside!

The Don Gilpin Scholarship: Class of 2005 organizes for beloved teacher
The Don Gilpin Scholarship will award $1,000 annually to a DECA student who demonstrates the values that mattered most to Mr. Gilpin. Our goal is to raise $25,000 - with this initial funding and the support from the Foundation to manage these endowed funds, we will be able to honor Mr. Gilpin’s lasting impact on all of us with a commitment to provide this scholarship in perpetuity.
The long-term impact that a great teacher has is almost impossible to quantify. The best educators help students find their passions, push creativity, and foster an open environment where thoughts can be explored and eventually turned into ideas. The Don Gilpins of the world somehow manage to do all of those things while simultaneously shaping countless students' outlook on life. Mr. Gilpin (a.k.a DECA Don or simply Glip as many of us call him) was more than a teacher and educator during his 32 years at Westside. He made sure that he covered the curriculum, but he truly taught about perspective, motivation, character, optimism, kindness, positivity, and confidence. He did this in the classroom and on the soccer field.
To make a donation, click on the button below. Please select the gift designation as the Don Gilpin Scholarship Fund. Donations in any amount are helpful and appreciated. Your donation may also be eligible for employer gift matching, so please consider inquiring with your employer on a match as well!
The list of people that Mr. Gilpin had a positive impact on is a mile long and we want to make sure he truly knows this. We’ll be sharing a list of all donors with Gilp (donation amounts will not be shared). Please help us to show him how many people’s lives he has had an impact on by sharing this with anyone who may want to contribute: friends, classmates, parents, etc.
