Advocacy Note

Hello! I am excited to take the role of Student Advocate this school year. I would like to tell you a little about me. I graduated from OU with a M.Ed in Licensed Professional Counseling. I have worked as a therapist in an agency and also worked as a school counselor. I have two children at Purcell Schools and they keep me busy with activities after school. I love Purcell Schools! I see great things happening here that really put our students first! I am excited to be part of a district that cares so deeply and works so hard to see every student succeed.

I believe in teaching self-advocacy and self-regulation; one way this is achieved is through self-awareness. I will encourage students to listen to their bodies, and learn signs of strong emotions. I will teach students how to use healthy and appropriate coping skills in-the-moment to regulate their emotions, bodies, and thoughts. I will be working in all school locations. We are hoping to form small groups, work individually, and use whole class counselings lessons to meet the needs of all students. To help us learn more about how best to serve students, please complete the parent survey below for your student's location. We appreciate your input and support to best serve all students!

Sleep helps us control our emotions!

Sleep is very important for growth, development, and emotions! A good night of rest helps students regulate their emotions! Emotions feel so much bigger when one is tired. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommendations for sleep are below.
