ATTENDANCE INFO
If your child will not be in school or if they will be tardy, please call the school office (701 356 6830) before the school day begins, with the following information:
- Child's Name
- Child's Classroom Teacher
- Reason for Absence
If you know in advance that your child will be absent due to an appointment, funeral, vacation, etc., please notify your child's classroom teacher and the school office. In the event a child needs to be picked up prior to the end of the school day, a parent/guardian must report to the school office and request the child be dismissed from class.
Tardy Students:
We have students arriving late and buzzing into the office alone. A parent/guardian is required to sign their student in for the day if they're tardy. The bell rings at 8:00 a.m. and students are allowed to go to their classroom. Students are tardy if not in their classroom ready to learn at 8:10 a.m. Those arriving late will receive a tardy pass. Students who are an unexcused tardy are missing the morning routine in their classroom and Mr. Shea's daily announcements. Unexcused tardies are documented in your child's attendance. Thank you for making sure your child arrives on time.
Procedure for checking a student out early:
In order to maintain security and safety for our students, the following procedures have been put in place.
- When checking out your child prior to the end of the school day, parents (guardian) need to come to the office and sign them out. We will not call your child to come and wait in the office as requested by notes or phone call prior to your arrival. I know this may be an inconvenience, but it is minimizing instructional time loss for your child.
- Please understand that if we do not recognize you, we will be asking for ID to verify that you are able to pick up one of our students. Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you understand that it is for the safety of our children.
- Parents, please keep our office updated on who can or who cannot pick up your child. If there have been changes that we should be aware of as a school it is appreciated if you could inform us, so we can update our files.
- If there are court orders, please provide an updated copy to our office as soon as you are able, so our files reflect this as well. Our school staff can and will act only on the most recent official documentation on file in the office
-North Dakota law contains compulsory attendance requirements for students ages seven through sixteen. West Fargo Public Schools believes there is an intangible benefit associated with being present in the classroom. Students are required to attend school 90% of the academic school year. For more information on the district's attendance policy, review the administrative policy FFB-AP: Attendances & Absences.
Every day of learning matters at Meadowlark! When learners are here consistently, they build strong academic habits, friendships, and confidence. North Dakota law requires students ages 7β16 to attend school at least 90% of the year, and our team monitors attendance through a three-tier system. If absences start to add up, our School Attendance Review Board (SARB) will reach out to partner with families to remove barriers and support regular attendance. Thank you for helping us make sure every learner is present, growing, and connected!
SAFETY SECTION WITH OFFICER SKWIERA AND CLOVER
NOTES FROM NURSE NATALIE
With the start of the school year, it is so great to see all the students again β I cannot believe how much they have grown! I look forward to the school year and hope that it will be a healthy one. That being said, I have heard that there is a flu bug starting to go around as well as some Influenza A already. Included here are the guidelines for when a learner is too sick to be in school. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me. I am at Meadowlark from 07:30-03:00 on school days. My phone number is 701-551-4605 and email is nnielsen@west-fargo.k12.nd.us.
One role of mine is managing medication administration at the school. This can be a daily medication, an antibiotic, or an as needed medication (this does include cough drops). If your child needs to take a medication at school, please let me know. I would also ask that you review the full medication policy that is available at ACBD-AP: Medication Administration - West Fargo 6 School District.
One change with the district this year is that the no nits lice policy has changed. This means that if lice are discovered on a learner, they are able to remain in the classroom for the school day. I will be calling the parent/guardian to notify them that their learner has lice and that they should be treated as soon as possible and are able to return to school once treated. This change is in more in line with the Department of Health, American Academy of Pediatrics and Center for Disease control guidelines. For more information, please visit About Head Lice | Lice | CDC
