Going for the Gold at Torringford School!

Dear Torringford Families,

Can you believe it’s already May? We’re heading into the final stretch of the school year, and things are moving fast. Our Tigers have been working so hard lately, and we’re getting everything ready for a busy season of field trips, special events, and end-of-year assessments. We encourage you to stay attentive to communications from teachers and updates on ParentSquare regarding end-of-year events.

An Olympic-Sized Thank You!

A massive shout-out to our incredible PTO, parent volunteers, and families for making Staff Appreciation Week a truly Olympic-sized success! Our team felt like world-class champions thanks to the amazing breakfast, luncheon, and snacks provided throughout the week. Whether you brewed up a dish, sent in drinks, or supported us with a donation, your generosity was the fuel that kept our team going. Those heartwarming messages of appreciation were the best kind of gold medals we could receive—thank you for making the Torringford staff feel like they’re at the top of the podium!

Quick Safety Reminders

As the weather warms up and everyone heads outside to play, please help us keep our Tigers safe and ready for action:

  • Footwear: Please make sure students wear sneakers for playground activities. For safety reasons, flip-flops or backless shoes aren't allowed.

  • Toys: To keep everyone focused and make sure special items don't get lost or broken, please leave toys at home rather than bringing them to school or on the bus.

Mark Your Calendars

Please take note of our final schedule so we can all have a smooth transition into summer. The last day of school is Tuesday, June 23rd, with an early dismissal at 1:45 PM.

Thank you for being such a huge part of your child’s journey—we couldn’t reach the finish line without you!

With Tiger Pride,

Kelly & Georgia

Finishing Strong: Every Day Counts!

As we head into the final stretch of the school year, we want to celebrate the incredible progress our Tigers have made. While the warmer weather and end-of-year excitement are in the air, this is actually one of the most critical times for learning. Finishing the year strong sets the foundation for success in the grade ahead!

The "17 or Fewer" Goal Did you know that according to Attendance Works, missing just 10% of the school year (about 18 days) can significantly impact a student’s ability to stay on track academically?

To ensure our students are categorized as not chronically absent, our goal is for every Tiger to end the year with 17 or fewer total absences. Why it Matters:

  • Academic Momentum: End-of-year projects and final units bridge the gap to next year’s curriculum.

  • Social Connections: Closing out the year with friends and teachers builds a sense of belonging and closure.

  • Healthy Habits: Consistent attendance builds the "persistence" muscle we value so much here at Torringford.

We know that illnesses and family emergencies happen—and we always want our Tigers to stay home if they are truly sick—but whenever possible, let’s make sure they are in their seats, ready to roar!

Let’s cross the finish line together, one "PAWSOME" day at a time!

If you have an attendance concern, please reach out to Georgia Austin or Deb Mordecai.

Healthy Habits for May

Happy May, Torringford Families! We are so proud of how our Tigers are taking care of themselves and each other. To keep everyone feeling their best as we head toward summer, please remember to:

  • Prioritize Sleep: Even with the longer daylight hours, our students still need plenty of rest to support their growing bodies and minds.
  • Dress in Layers: Connecticut mornings can be chilly, but the afternoons get warm! Layers help students stay comfortable all day long.
  • Stay Home When Sick: If your child has a fever or has vomited, they must be symptom-free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school.

If you have any health concerns,

please don't hesitate to reach out to Nurse Allison or Nurse Denise!

Let's Get Those Hoodies Home

The Lost & Found Roundup

A sweatshirt left out on the grass,

A water bottle after class.

A lunchbox sitting all alone,

Just waiting to be headed home!

A hoodie blue, a jacket red,

A coat for a cold morning's bed.

So Tigers, take a little peek,

For any missing gear you seek!

Pre-Kindergarten Discoveries - Where curiosity and fun go hand in hand! Pre-Kindergarten Discoveries - Where curiosity and fun go hand in hand!

The Power of Play: Learning Outdoors

Our Pre-K students have been making the most of the beautiful spring weather in the Torringford courtyard!

Outdoor play is so much more than just a break from the classroom; it is a vital part of our "Discoveries" curriculum. Whether they are navigating the riding toys to develop gross motor skills or engaging in imaginative play with their peers, our youngest Tigers are building confidence, coordination, and social-emotional connections.

Watching their curiosity come to life in the fresh air reminds us that some of the best lessons happen outside the four walls of a classroom!
