Principal’s Message

Dear ASI Parents, Guardians, & Students,

As we enter the month of May, we are also approaching the final stretch of the school year. This will be our last monthly newsletter of the year, and what a year it has been! We are incredibly proud of the growth, resilience, and accomplishments of our students and grateful for the continued partnership and support from our families. Together, we have made this a meaningful and successful year for our Bruins.

In the coming weeks, our focus turns to State Testing, an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning and progress:

  • 7th Grade students will be assessed in Language Arts and Math

  • 8th Grade students will be assessed in Language Arts, Math, and Science
(Please note: The Science test measures standards from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.)

State Testing plays an important role in supporting student achievement and school growth. These assessments provide valuable information that helps guide instruction, identify areas of strength, and determine where additional support or enrichment may be needed. They also give families a clear snapshot of how their child is progressing in core academic areas, helping strengthen the home-school partnership that is so essential to student success.

We know that students perform best when they feel supported, confident, and prepared. Your encouragement at home makes a significant difference during this time.

How You Can Support Your Student:

  • Prioritize Rest: Encourage your student to unplug from devices at least two hours before bedtime to ensure a good night’s sleep.

  • Start the Day Right: A healthy breakfast fuels focus and energy. Remember, breakfast is free for all ASI students each morning.

  • Be On Time: Prompt arrival helps students feel settled and ready to do their best.

  • Plan Ahead: If possible, schedule appointments outside of the testing window to avoid missed instruction and make-up testing.

  • Promote a Positive Mindset: Remind your student to take their time, stay focused, and simply do their best each day.

As we close out the year, we also look forward to celebrating our students’ achievements, milestones, and memories made along the way. Thank you for being such an important part of the Alta Sierra community and for your continued support of our students and staff.

Together, we finish strong!

With Bruin Pride,
Mrs. Carter

10 REASONS WHY STUDENTS NEED TO BE IN SCHOOL 10 REASONS WHY STUDENTS NEED TO BE IN SCHOOL

#10 Habits for Life

The benefits of attending school every day are overwhelming. Students have the best opportunities to success in mind, body, and spirit when they maintain engagement, have stability, interact with others and have guidance available. Through their school career, they will be empowered with knowledge about academics and themselves, and they will be equipped with skills for college and careers.

STUDENT END OF THE YEAR EXPECTATIONS STUDENT END OF THE YEAR EXPECTATIONS

End-of-Year Expectations Contract

As we approach the end of the school year, all students have been placed on an Expectations Contract. This was explained to all students during their AB classes on Monday, April 20th. Students were asked to review the contract with their parent or guardian and keep it in their binder to help them monitor their points.

How It Works:

  • All students start with 10 points.

  • Beginning Monday, April 27th, points will be deducted for the following behaviors:

    • Being tardy

    • Dress code violations

    • Phone use during class, break, or lunch

    • Inappropriate language or cursing

    • Leaving trash behind

    • Unkind or disrespectful behavior toward others

    • Cheating

    • Any other classroom learning disruptions

Point Deductions:

  • Lunch Detention or SRC = 1 point per detention

  • After-School Detention = 2 points per detention

  • Saturday School = 3 points per assignment

  • Suspension (for any incident after April 27th) = Automatic loss of all end-of-year celebrations

  • 2 or more F’s in core academic classes (as of May 22nd) = Automatic loss of all end-of-year celebrations

Important Reminder:

  • If a student loses all 10 points, they will lose the opportunity to participate in all end-of-year reward activities.

We appreciate your support in helping students finish the year strong by encouraging positive behavior and responsibility. Let's work together to make the end of the school year a positive and memorable experience for everyone!

Students interested in joining a Robotics Team next school year are invited to attend a mandatory informational meeting on Tuesday, May 5th at 7:00 PM in the MPR. Students must attend with at least one parent or guardian.

This meeting will provide an overview of our robotics programs, expectations, time commitments, and opportunities for student involvement. ASI offers participation in both FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC)—two engaging, hands-on programs that promote teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation through competitive robotics.

VISITOR CHECK-IN PROCESS VISITOR CHECK-IN PROCESS

Lunch Drop-Off Procedures for Campus Safety

To help us maintain a safe and secure campus for all students, parents/guardians who bring lunch for their child are required to check in at the front office upon arrival. As part of our safety procedures, you will be signed in through the Raptor system and issued a visitor sticker with your name and photo. Please wear this sticker visibly while waiting for your student, as it allows staff to quickly verify that you have properly checked in.

Additionally, we ask that you bring lunch for your child only and not for other students.

We appreciate your cooperation and partnership in supporting a safe school environment for everyone.

Thank you for helping us keep ASI secure!

CELEBRATING OUR INCREDIBLE ASI TEACHERS! CELEBRATING OUR INCREDIBLE ASI TEACHERS!

Dear ASI Parents and Guardians,

As we approach Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4th–8th), I want to pause and recognize the extraordinary dedication, care, and commitment our teachers bring to Alta Sierra each and every day.

Our teachers do far more than deliver lessons—they inspire curiosity, build confidence, and create a sense of belonging for every student who walks through their doors. During these pivotal middle school years, they serve as mentors, role models, and steady sources of encouragement. Their impact extends well beyond academics, shaping the character, resilience, and future of our students in lasting ways.

While we look forward to celebrating our teachers as a staff, one of the most meaningful ways to honor them is through a simple, heartfelt message from you or your child. A brief email, handwritten note, or a few sincere words of appreciation can make a lasting impact. These messages are often saved and revisited, serving as powerful reminders of the difference they make—especially on challenging days.

I encourage you to take a moment this week to help us recognize the incredible work of our teachers. Your support in celebrating them helps strengthen the positive, connected community we are so proud of at ASI.

With gratitude,
Mrs. Carter
