Volleyball Area Tournament

On Thursday, October 16th, we will host the Volleyball Area 7 Tournament here at HTHS. This is the schedule for the games that day:

Match 1: First Round (11:30am): (5) Grissom vs (4) Albertville

Match 2 (1:30pm): Semifinals: Winner of Match 1 vs (1) Hewitt-Trussville

Match 3 (3:30pm): Semifinals: (3) Huntsville vs (2) Vestavia

Match 4 (5:30pm): Finals: Winner of Match 2 vs Winner of Match 3

With parent permission, we will permit our students in good standing to sign up to miss 8th period to attend match 2. Students must still purchase their own ticket on GoFan. The student athletic pass only works for regular season games and not playoffs.

A student in good standing is defined as:

  1. On grade-level / on track to graduate

  2. No current cumulative average below 65%

  3. No unexcused absences for the 1st quarter

  4. No instances of ISD or OSS for the year

Mock ACT Results Available Soon

9th–10th Grade Students: Scores can be accessed on Progress Learning by clicking on Graded Assignments and viewing the Score Report. For step-by-step guidance, students can reference the screenshots provided in Help Accessing Mock ACT Results (9–10).

11th Grade Students: Student score reports will be distributed in their English classrooms on Wednesday, October 15th.

What do the scores mean?

ACT benchmarks show whether a student is on track to be successful in college-level courses. Meeting a benchmark means the student has a 50% chance of earning a B or higher and a 75% chance of earning a C or higher in that subject area in college.

Here’s what each section measures:

  • English (Benchmark: 18) – Assesses grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and rhetoric. Meeting the benchmark suggests a student is ready for college English Composition.

Math (Benchmark: 22) – Measures algebra, geometry, and basic trigonometry skills. Meeting the benchmark indicates readiness for college Algebra.

Reading (Benchmark: 22) – Tests reading comprehension and the ability to understand complex texts. Meeting the benchmark shows readiness for college-level social science courses.

Science (Benchmark: 23) – Evaluates interpretation of data, scientific reasoning, and problem-solving. Meeting the benchmark reflects readiness for college Biology.

Important Note: ACT benchmarks are based on graduating seniors, so it’s normal for 9th–11th graders to still be working toward these goals. Students who have not yet met a benchmark can use their Mock ACT data to identify areas for improvement and focus their study efforts before the official ACT.

Let's Honor Our Veterans!

Veterans Day is coming up, and we want to celebrate the heroes in our own families! We are creating our annual Veterans Day Slideshow and invite you to share a photo and information about a veteran in your immediate family—a mother, father, brother, sister, step-parent, or step-sibling. This is a wonderful way to honor their service and sacrifice. It will be featured on our own HTHS TV Announcements as well as our Newsletter. Just click the link below to submit their details and a picture. Please be sure to do so by October 24, 2025. We can't wait to see your submissions and honor our local heroes.
