Dear Grantham Village School Parent/Guardian,

Each year, New Hampshire public and chartered public schools are required by state law (RSA 193-C) and federal accountability laws (Every Student Succeeds Act) to assess students using a standardized assessment. These assessments help evaluate student progress and guide instruction. To learn more, visit the New Hampshire Department of Education’s Office of Assessment webpage.

At Grantham Village School students in grades 3 through 6 will participate in the English Language Arts (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics assessments. Our 5th grade students will also be assessed in Science. Grantham Village School will administer these assessments in May. It is beneficial if you try to avoid scheduling appointments or vacations during the testing dates. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and good breakfast, prior to testing. Let us know if your child will not be here on the scheduled testing date as we need to arrange for a makeup time.

Statewide assessments are an important part of a student’s core educational program. They measure student mastery of core academic skills, inform classroom instruction, and support learning recovery. In addition to classroom assignments, projects, essays, and local formative and summative assessments, statewide summative assessment results provide teachers and parents with valuable insight into students’ progress on their path toward academic success.

Average Testing Times Grades 3-6:

English Language Arts/Reading: 60-75 minutes

Writing: 60-75 minutes

Mathematics: 60-75 minutes

Science (Grade 5 only): 60-75 minutes

Parents may access NH SAS practice tests by going to the NH SAS assessment portal at: Students and Families. Results of the assessments are typically available shortly after a student completes the test. Parents can view test results through the Family Portal using an access code. Please contact us to obtain one. We will also send individual reports home when they become available.

While state testing is not our only focus, it is an indicator of your child’s progress and the school’s effectiveness in general. A parent / guardian can request an exemption for the assessment, by contacting Kristen Reed to request an exemption form. The form must be completed and submitted prior to the start of the assessment dates. However, it should be noted that a parental request for exemption does result in the school receiving a zero for that student. We are required to have at least 95% of students in grades 3-6 complete the assessment. If you have any questions related to the assessment administration, you may contact our School Counselor, Kris Widmann. Thank you for supporting your student!

Sincerely,

Kristen Reed, School Principal

Kris Widmann, School Counselor

Fisher Cats 2026 Reading Challenge

New Hampshire Fisher Cats host the annual Fisher Cats Reading Challenge, and Grantham Village School has a strong tradition of participation! In fact, our school was one of the top participating schools in the state of New Hampshire for two years in a row.

Because of our outstanding effort, we were awarded $1,000, which was used to purchase exciting new titles for our book vending machine and to host a graphic novel author for our students.

Let’s keep the momentum going—get reading and help our school finish among the top in the state again this year! Forms were sent home today!
