CSD Administering BASC-3 BESS Oct. 6-31, 2025
From Oct. 6-31, 2025, CSD will administer the Social, Emotional and Behavioral Screening (BASC-3 BESS), a brief screening tool for students in grades 3-12 that helps to identify social, emotional, and behavioral strengths and needs so schools can provide timely support. Screener results help schools strengthen classroom practices, offer small-group or individual support, and partner with families to connect students with resources. Together, we can ensure every child feels safe, seen and supported. Find out more in the Social, Emotional and Behavioral Screening (BASC-3 BESS) FAQ.
CSD invites parents and guardians to attend a Google Meet BASC-3 BESS parent workshop:

Highlights & Horizons
Spotlight on Learning: Mr. Peebles' Business & Communications Class
We're excited to shine a spotlight on the incredible work happening in Mr. Peebles' class! As one of the newest members of our CSD family, Mr. Peebles has already inspired his students to dive into the powerful world of storytelling. From creating original Public Service Announcements to mastering the art of the interview, his students are collaborating and getting creative every day. They even launched their own virtual studio and recently conducted their first exclusive interview with Ms. Glenn!
Our students were also given a special opportunity to learn directly from the pros. We were thrilled to welcome two accomplished journalists, Gwen Anderson, former CNN Senior Editor Producer (now with The World from A to Z), and Maria Fisher, CNN Editor Producer, to our school. They shared their career journeys and offered firsthand insights into the world of broadcast journalism, inspiring students to find their own voices as young journalists.
Through this innovative course, students are not only building technical skills but also truly experiencing what it means to be Seen, Supported, and Successful—a core part of our school's vision. Please join us in applauding Mr. Peebles for the passion, creativity, and excellence he brings to our school community!

📖 Building a Reading Routine That Sticks
Now that the school year is in full swing, busy schedules can make it tough to keep up with daily reading. But here’s the good news: you don’t need hours each night to make an impact. Small, consistent steps go a long way in helping your middle schooler grow as a reader.
Quick wins you can try this week:
✅ Pair reading with an existing routine (like bedtime or after dinner).
✅ Use car rides for audiobooks the whole family can enjoy.
✅ Rotate books often to keep reading fresh and engaging.
With just 10–15 minutes a day, you can help build a routine that feels doable and lasts all year.
