2026 SUNDAY PARKWAYS KICKS OFF ON MAY 17

The Kick off for the 2026 Portland Sunday Parkways season, Presented by Kaiser Permanente, is on May 17, 2026, from 11am to 4pm in Southwest Portland. Join the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) and the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund (PCEF) in celebrating car-free streets for walking, rolling, playing and shopping with neighbors and friends.

The Southwest Portland route will create a 2-mile corridor for biking, walking, and rolling, as well as a 2.6-mile self-guided walking route. At five activation areas along the route -- Gabriel Park, Village Park, Multnomah Arts Center, Multnomah Village, and Spring Garden Park -- people are encouraged to stop and enjoy vendor marketplaces, free family-friendly activities, and live entertainment.

Kaiser Permanente invites participants of all ages to learn, play and explore healthy habits at its popular interactive booths: MOVE, PLAY, NOURISH and CONNECT. Families can play the popular Kaiser Permanente Sticker Hunt by visiting each booth to collect stickers and earn a prize.

New this year, as the official medical provider of the Portland Thorns and Portland Fire, families can stop by the MOVE booth in Gabriel Park for Portland Fire–inspired activities and the PLAY booth in Multnomah Village for Portland Thorns experiences. Sessions on jumping and landing safely, along with ACL injury prevention, will be led by Kaiser Permanente’s team physicians for the Thorns and Fire, Dr. Jackie Brady and Dr. Melissa Novak Ott. Visitors can also enjoy healthy treats at the NOURISH booth and contribute to a community mural at the CONNECT booth designed to spark conversation and help reduce stigma around mental health.

"Sunday Parkways uses our street space as a place for families and everyone in our community to gather," PBOT Director Millicent Williams said. "Our Sunday Parkways event in Southwest makes it easy to choose to walk, roll, or bike in an environment where you can experience car-free streets. Come and enjoy parks, business districts and the rolling hills of Southwest Portland with us this Sunday."

ARCHITECTS IN SCHOOLS SUMMER CAMP

My name is Sam Majors, and I work with the Architecture Foundation of Oregon. We are a statewide organization that is committed to educating and inspiring Oregonians of all ages and backgrounds to engage in the design of our built environment. One of the ways we do this is by providing resources and opportunities for elementary school students to engage in design, including but not limited to architecture, engineering, construction, interior design, art, and other design fields.

Our goal is to make sure elementary students and their families across Oregon know about AFO and can utilize our resources as they navigate their education journey and deepen their learning.

We are wrapping up our 23rd year of Architects in Schools statewide, (54th year total) and the energy around student exhibits reminds us how valuable this free programming is! Please let me know if you are interested in a direct email when the Architects in Schools applications open for the 2026-2027 school year!

We are preparing for our 6th annual Architects in Schools Summer Camp that will be held virtually June 22, 2026 through June 26, 2026. I have attached our camp flyer, and our registration links which are available in English & Spanish. We would be thrilled to have you join us for this engaging camp!

Lastly, I’ve also included our 2026 Summer Camp Catalog (for students K-College). There are several great camps for Oregon students to explore design this summer (including our Architects in Schools Camp, NOMA PDX's Architecture Summer Camp, UO’s SAIL Summer Program and more) and we have compiled those opportunities into our 2026 Summer Camp Catalog (please see PDF attachment).

Please consider joining our youth opportunities newsletter to stay up to date on exciting offerings!

BIKE TO BOOKS DESIGN CONTEST

The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) and Multnomah County Library are teaming up once again for the eighth annual Bike to Books design competition. Contest runs May 1-June 1. Portlanders are invited to design original art to celebrate Bike Month and the hundreds of miles of bike lanes around the city. Participants start with the standard sharrow bike lane marking and put their own flair on it for the chance to add color and whimsy to Portland streets! Submit art in the Pre-Kindergarten to 2nd grade, 3rd through 6th grade, 7th through 12th grade, or adult categories. Learn more and download a Bike to Books design sheet

Greetings from the Portland Rose Festival Foundation!

We’re thrilled to invite you to join the festivities at the 2026 Fred Meyer Junior Parade! In the spirit of making the Fred Meyer Junior Parade more accessible to children, youth and families, we are excited to announce that this beloved Rose Festival tradition will be moving to a new day and time in 2026.
