Kindergarten November Highlights

November has been a wonderful month of learning, exploring, and celebrating together in Kindergarten! Here’s a peek at what we’ve been up to:

Learning About the First Thanksgiving

This month, we explored the story of the first Thanksgiving. Students learned about how the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag people came together for a harvest celebration long ago. We focused on themes of friendship, gratitude, cooperation, and sharing. We discussed how people lived long ago, what they ate, and how life was different from today. We concluded our month by celebrating with Thanksgiving themed rotations. The children were able to visit each kindergarten classroom and participate in various activities centered around Thanksgiving.

Learning About Native Americans

We continued learning about Native American communities—especially the Wampanoag—through stories, pictures, and hands-on activities.
Students explored traditional homes, clothing, and tools. Our conversations centered on respect, appreciation, and understanding for Native peoples both past and present.

Visit From the Wood County Park District

A highlight of the month was a special visit from the Wood County Park District!
Students participated in an engaging program focused on games and chores that Native American children historically took part in. Activities included learning about and trying traditional games, exploring daily responsibilities and a hands-on experience grinding corn, just as Native American children once did. This visit helped students make meaningful connections to what we’ve been learning in the classroom and brought history to life in a fun and interactive way.

A Season of Gratitude

Throughout November, we practiced expressing gratitude to friends, teachers, and family members. We talked about kind words, helping hands, and showing thankfulness every day.

Outside Recess

We will try to go outside as often as possible. When the real feel is at 20 degrees, and it isn't icy , we will try to go outside. For students to play in snow, they need to have snowpants and shoes for snow. Otherwise, they must stay on the blacktop if snow is covering the grass areas.
