Lincoln's Weekly Bulletin
8/21/26
Lincoln Families,
What a great start to the school year! Our Panthers are learning, growing, and beginning to understand what Panther Pride looks like each day. It has been especially exciting to watch our 6th graders adjust to middle school, make new friends, learn new routines, and find their place at Lincoln.
As we continue building our school community, we are grounding our work in Lincoln’s 4 P’s: Presence, Partnership, Purpose, and Pathway.
PRESENCE: How We Show Up
Panther Pride starts with how we show up and how we treat one another. We are reminding students to:
- Use appropriate and respectful language with peers and adults.
- If there is a problem or conflict, tell an adult and let us help handle it rather than taking matters into their own hands.
- Pick up trash during nutrition and lunch and help keep our campus clean.
We take pride in having a beautiful campus, and keeping Lincoln clean is everyone's responsibility. Panther Pride means leaving our school better than we found it!
PARTNERSHIP: Drop-Off & Pick-Up Safety
We need your partnership to keep everyone safe during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
Please do not allow students to exit your vehicle in the middle of the road. We have had a few close calls, and this can be extremely dangerous. The minutes right before the bell rings can be especially busy as everyone is trying to get to school on time.
Please give yourself extra time and use designated areas for safely dropping off your student.
PURPOSE: Start the Morning with STAAR
One way to avoid the morning traffic and rush is to take advantage of our STAAR morning program, which opens at 6:45 AM.
Students can arrive early, get settled on campus, and start their morning in a safe and supervised environment. This is a great option for families who want to avoid the busiest drop-off times.
PATHWAY: Planning Ahead
Beginning the week of August 24, a construction project will be taking place on California Street. Parking and traffic around our campus may be impacted.
Please plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and consider using our morning STAAR program when possible. A little planning will help everyone start the day safely and successfully.
Panther Pride Is Growing!
We are still learning together, and we are on our way! Every day, our students are learning what it means to demonstrate Panther Pride through their choices, relationships, responsibility, and care for our school.
Thank you, families, for your continued Presence, Partnership, Purpose, and commitment to helping every Panther find their Pathway to success.
We are off to a wonderful start, and I am excited about what is ahead!
Have a great weekend, Lincoln Family!
Respectfully,
Dr. Myeshia Whigham

What Our Panthers Are Saying
At Lincoln Middle School, we value student voice and believe our students should have a say in their school experience. The Panorama Survey gives students an opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings about school, including their sense of belonging, relationships with adults and peers, engagement, well-being, and overall school experience. Their responses provide valuable information that helps our staff celebrate what is working well and identify areas where we can continue to grow.
In May 2026, our students shared their voices through the Panorama Survey - and we are incredibly proud of what they told us! Their responses showed us that the work we are doing to build connection, belonging, positive relationships, and a strong school community is making a difference. Our students told us what is working. Our students told us what matters. And we are listening!
Take a look below to see what our students shared in May 2026.

Attendance Matters at Lincoln!
NEW! Attendance Matters! Be Here & On Time
Hello Lincoln families! Welcome to what promises to be an amazing school year! Our staff is committed to making sure that your child learns, and has a lot of fun this school year. This year our school is working on attendance, and we need your support. Regular attendance promotes student academic growth and achievement of grade-level expectations. Children who attend school regularly have many shared opportunities with their peers for social and emotional development that work to create lasting friendships.
Students who miss just two days a month are at risk of chronic absenteeism. Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10% or more of the school year, or 18+ days a year. This year, our school has created a team whose main focus is improving school wide attendance. As part of the attendance work, we plan on communicating more frequently around your child’s attendance.
Please know you may receive attendance nudge letters that highlight your student’s absences multiple times this year. These letters are intended to inform and better communicate between the school and the home. Should you receive an attendance letter and have a question or concern, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Next week, August 24th - August 28th, we’re kicking off our Panther Attendance Challenge! This encourages students to show up, be on time, and help their Advisory earn the highest attendance rate. One Advisory from each grade level - 6th, 7th, and 8th - will win popsicles! Every day counts, so let’s show up and get oto 100%
We are here to support you!
Thank you for all you do for your children,

Get Ready for a Great School Year! School Supplies & Important Information
To help our Panthers start the school year prepared for success, each student will be bringing home a grade-level school supply brochure today. The brochure includes the recommended supplies for your student’s grade level, along with teacher names and additional classroom expectations and information. Please review the brochure with your student and plan to have all requested supplies at school by Monday, August 24th. We are also linking them here. Thank you for helping our students start the year prepared, organized, and ready to learn! We appreciate your partnership in setting our Panthers up for success.

Cell Phone Policy - Off and Away All Day
Together with schools throughout Oceanside Unified School District, we continue our cell phone policy, "During the Day, Off and Away," for the 2025-2026 school year (Board Policy 5131.8). Our goal is to create a safe and focused learning environment for all students by minimizing distractions and promoting their mental well-being.
Key Points:
Cell Phone Usage: Students must turn off (ringer/tone/sounds off) and store their phones in their backpacks upon entering campus. Phones should stay off until they leave.
Exceptions: Students with specific accommodations (IEPs, 504 plans, or medical conditions) may have phone access as specified in the policy.
Communication: Office has landlines for students to contact parents when necessary and may ask permission to call you.
Academic Benefits: Reducing phone usage helps students stay focused and engaged in class.
Safety and Security: This policy helps prevent cyberbullying, ensures students focus during emergencies, and reduces the risk of theft or loss.
Support and disciplinary measures are in place for policy violations to help students adjust.
Thank you for your support as we work together to enhance our students' learning experience and well-being.
