Special Events:
- National Young Readers Day (Tuesday, November 12) We'll be celebrating this special day that honors the importance of reading. As Margaret Fuller wisely said, "Today a reader, tomorrow a leader." We're excited to nurture your child's growth as both a reader and future leader.
- Social-Emotional Learning Focus (Wednesday) We're proud to share that our school is partnering with Northwestern University to enhance our support of students' social and emotional development. During Wednesday's half day, we'll focus on activities that help students:
- Explore their sense of self
- Understand their place in the world
- Develop their identity
- Navigate the middle school experience
As educators, we value our partnership with you in supporting your child's growth during these important middle school years. Together, we can help shape our amazing next generation.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about this week's schedule or activities.

Black SonRISE Week 4 Recap
Greetings Fellow Parents and Caregivers,
Today was a day of reflection and preparation for our Risers. We were honored to welcome Ms. Brigitte Evans and Ms. Tawana Stiff to our session, two of D65's most respected educators.
Reflection came in the form of sharing our emotions and thoughts about the election. Risers asked telling questions about standards and expectations that we have for our candidates. They heard perspectives from the dads and the teachers about the urgency of the moment. Our community is looking to Risers as leaders of tomorrow, and we need them to be well educated.
With Veterans Day approaching, reflection also came in the form of an appreciation for people such as BSR dad and Army veteran Mr. Jimi Hickman. The Risers learned that the first American to die for their country in battle was a Black man, Crispus Attucks, in the opening skirmish of the Revolutionary War.
After four more Risers successfully recited the BSR creed, we transitioned to powerful presentations from Ms. Evans and Ms. Stiff. They shared strategies to combat test anxiety through preparation and perform better on the upcoming MAP test.
Our final session of the fall is next Saturday, and we are inviting all Riser moms to join us as Black SonRISE recognizes women in leadership!'
