Mill Valley Weekly
Thursday, November 5th, 2026

Hello Mill Valley Families,
Now that November has arrived, our stretch of unseasonably warm fall weather is coming to an end! As we all know, Wisconsin weather can change in a heartbeat. Because of the open space, the Mill Valley playground is often much cooler and windier than the forecasted temperature. Please help your child dress in layers each morning, and consider tossing a hat and pair of gloves into their backpack so they stay comfortable during outdoor recess.
In Partnership,
Allyce Harris

Classroom Goals by Month
Each month, every classroom sets its own behavior goal to work toward together. These goals might include things like: walking quietly and respectfully in the hallways or making good choices about who we sit with during learning and work time.
At the end of the month, classrooms that meet their goal get to participate in a Minute-To-Win-It game during our Golden Awards assembly. Take a look at the fun below!

PBIS October Student Summary
Mill Valley students continue to work hard to demonstrate their respect, their responsibility, and their kindness. At the end of each month, behavior referral (majors and minors) graphs are shared with the staff and students. We wanted to share data trends with you, as well. When teachers share the graphs with their students, they facilitate important conversations about behavior in regard to trends, noticings, and potential actions to decrease the number of behavior referrals each month.
Below are some noticings and patterns from our staff and students for October:
Referrals most often happened on the playground followed by the classroom.
Most of the majors and minors were reported as physical aggression/contact.
Referrals happen least often while in the bathrooms, on the bus, or in the hallway.
Teachers and support staff have been having conferences, using “think sheets” and implementing restorative practices to help students build their skills to resolve conflicts with peers during their recess or free time.
In addition, our students have earned 3,962 Paw Prints in the month of October! As a reminder, students earn Paw Prints for being caught being respectful, responsible, or kind.

Here's What's Happening in Phy Ed
Our students have been so excited to participate in Halloween themed games designed to build essential movement skills. Over the past few weeks, students across all grade levels have been combining seasonal excitement along with working on throwing skills and spatial awareness.
Here is a look at what each grade level has been working on:
Kindergarten & 1st Grade: Our youngest students have been exploring spatial awareness and foundational throwing skills. Through high-energy games like Witch Knockdown and Zombie Tag, they are learning how to navigate the gym safely while also being competitive.
2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grade: Older students are sharpening their accuracy by focusing on mechanics for overhand throwing. In our crowd-favorite Ghost Knockdown game, students practice timing and coordination by trying to strike a flying "ghost" (a floating plastic bag) right out of the air using "Halloween candy" (soft yarn balls). They have also been building agility and quick reaction times with a fast-paced game of Ghost in the Graveyard.
It has been wonderful to see the students stay so active, cooperative, and enthusiastic while mastering these critical motor skills!
