SMART Goal # 1: English Language Arts

A. During the 2024-2025 school year, students in Grades K-2 will show evidence of growth in early literacy skills by a 12% increase in Students At or Above Benchmark as measured by the Spring 2024 Amplify mClass DIBELS Assessment. Students in grades 3-5 will continue to maintain their high achievement in Reading. This will be measured by an average of students in grades 3-5 scoring at the 75th percentile or above on the MAP School Profile Report.

B. During the 2024-2025 school year, students in Grades 3-5 will demonstrate an average increased achievement of 2 percentage points in the writing domain, as evidenced by the Spring 2025 MCAS.

Merrymount students partially met our English Language Arts goal. Students showed evidence of growth in early literacy skills as measured by the mCLASS Amplify DIBELS assessment and in fact surpassed the goal for K-2. We are happy to report that the average increase in students At or Above Benchmark was 16% as measured by the Spring 2025 Amplify mClass DIBELS Assessment. Students in Kindergarten increased to 83% of students at or above benchmark, students in Grade 1 increased to 84% of students at or above benchmark, and students in Grade 2 increased to 64% of students at or above benchmark.

Student achievement for grades 3-5 fell just slightly short of the our goal. Students in grades 3-5 continued to maintained high achievement in Reading, however, the average of students in grades 3-5 scored at the 74th percentile or above on the MAP School Profile Report with the target being the 75th percentile or above on the MAP School Profile Report.

Students in all grade levels exceeded national norms on MAP. Students in grades 2, 3, and 5 met or exceeded their projected growth. Grade 2 recorded a growth of 16 RIT points, Grade 3 recorded a growth of 14 RIT points, Grade 4 recorded a growth of 9 RIT points and Grade 5 recorded a growth of 7 RIT points.

Merrymount students will continue to focus on the writing domain this school year as it continues as a needed area of focus as evidenced by the results of Spring 2025 MCAS. Overall, the school average declined from 43% to 36%. Despite a decrease in growth, Merrymount students outperformed the state in this area. Looking at the data from a cohort perspective, there is evidence of growth. YOG 2034 students in Grade 3 recorded a growth of 29% to 32% percentage points, and Grade 5 recorded a growth of 40% to 50% percentage points.

Selected Response questions continue to be an area of strength for Merrymount students, with an average of 67% for Grades 3-5 students and Essay questions being an identified area for continued growth and improvement. Similarly for the English Language Arts domains, Writing is an identified area for continued growth and improvement
