Principal Corner

Hello AES families,

Welcome back! I hope everyone found time to relax and be together with friends and family last week. We have had some beautiful weather and the sun no longer sets before 6:00 PM. Spring is in the air. We have 62 days remaining to make a positive impact this school year and it is going to be outstanding.

Lion's Club - Our Lunch with Lions program is beginning this Tuesday! Volunteers from the Lion's Club will join each lunch period to visit, engage in conversation and mentor our eaglets. We look forward to sharing photos in the next newsletter.

NHSAS - All 3rd and 4th grade students will take the New Hampshire state assessment writing portion during the first two weeks of March. The remaining portions of reading and math assessment will occur later in the spring. All families of 3rd and 4th grade students will receive an email including additional details.

Crazy 8's - What a success the first meeting of Crazy 8's was before break. We look forward to more fun and learning this Wednesday from 3:30 - 4:30. Please remember to send an extra snack and water bottle or drink.

AES Facebook Page - Follow us on Facebook for up to the minute details and pictures of our day.

AES PTO Facebook Page - Thank you to our PTO group! We need to expand our membership and have a greater representation of voices at our meeting and events. Please know you do not have to attend every meeting in order to make an impact. I encourage each of you to get involved in any way possible. Follow the AES PTO Facebook page. Please contact Molly Lazar at mlazar@conval.edu for more information on how to get involved.

AES Leadership Team - Each year Title I schools are required to review their Title I schoolwide plan for effectiveness. We use our Leadership Team to move this work forward. Your voices are important to us and to this process. We would like to invite families to participate in the review process by joining our Leadership Team. The group meets to review the plan three times per year, including a planning session during the summer. The first review meeting will be held in March. Please contact me via phone or email at bgibney@conval.edu for more information.

Monadnock Roller Derby Skate Night - Saturday, March 9th, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at GBS. See below for additional details. We hope to see you all there !

Warmest wishes,

Beth Gibney — Principal

First Friends - Lots of fun being had on our last day of school before vacation. From shaving cream play, Mitten in the Snow game, and lots more fun throughout the day.

Kindergarten Kindergarten

In Ms. Dibbles class this week we have been learning about the -at family. We played games and talked about how learning word families can help us to read and write! We had such a fun week and have been learning so much. I hope everyone has a relaxing vacation!

Grade 1 Grade 1

Wow! This has been a busy week! Mrs. Sullivan’s class has been working on learning about syllables, open and closed syllables and compound words. In math, we are working on place value and we look forward to creating our place value project when we get back from break! We’ve also studied President’s Day, listened to a biography about George Washington, and we’ve been working on a George Washington project! So much fun in Grade 1!

Grade 2 Grade 2

The second graders began learning about units of measure with a heavy focus on centimeters! We had a lot of fun going around our classroom and measuring items! Did you know our whiteboard is 1 meter and 19 centimeters long?

Keep up the great work, second grade!

CRAZY 8s CRAZY 8s

The first week of Crazy 8s Math Club was an enormous success! Students learned about shapes in an activity called Neon Geometry. They used glow sticks to build two-dimensional shapes and turned the lights off to watch them glow. Third and fourth graders also learned about polyhedrons and created three-dimensional shapes too!

MuzArt MuzArt

In Muzart Fourth graders learned about Van Gogh and made their own version of Starry Night!

Eagle Eye on Literacy Eagle Eye on Literacy

In reading, 4th graders serve as wonderful role models and practice decodable readers with Kindergarten students.

Wellness Wellness

In Wellness, we celebrated the 100th day of school by dribbling 100 times! That brought us to the end of our basketball unit. Great job everyone!

Grade 4 Grade 4

In Mrs. Beaumont’s class, students shared their New Hampshire road trip presentations. After learning about the regions of New Hampshire, students researched natural and manmade attractions and planned a road trip for their favorite celebrity! Students had great fun researching and learning about our state!

Be an Upstander

In classroom lessons this week, kindergarteners have been learning about effective problem solving. So far, they have learned about saying the problem without blame and the need to calm down before attempting to solve problems. First, second, third and fourth-grade students are continuing to learn about bullying, focusing most recently on reporting a reporting an “upstander.”
