CREATE Innovation Center Welcomes Community at First Open House
The CREATE Innovation Center in Oxford opened its doors to the public on Wednesday, August 20, inviting families, students, educators, and community members to see firsthand the programs that are drawing attention across Alabama.
For two hours, visitors explored classrooms, labs, and workshop spaces inside the renovated Honeywell building. Programs on display included criminal justice, robotics, cybersecurity, computer science, advanced manufacturing, automotive technology, and Greenpower racing. Demonstrations highlighted the hands-on, project-based approach that sets CREATE apart from traditional classrooms.
The event marked an important milestone: current Oxford students were joined by prospective students from surrounding districts such as Anniston, Ohatchee, Cleburne County, St. Clair County, Munford, and Lincoln. Families were able to see how the center is preparing young people for high-demand careers through real-world learning opportunities.
Former Honeywell employees were also welcomed back to tour the transformed facility. Many expressed excitement at seeing the building evolve from an industrial site into a hub for innovation and workforce training.
Renovations funded through a state grant are underway to expand dedicated spaces, including a permanent home for the criminal justice program. In addition, CREATE is preparing to host regular visits from industry partners, helping students connect their training to future career pathways.
The open house underscored CREATE’s mission: to expand opportunities for students across the region and strengthen the link between education and workforce needs. With new students enrolling and more schools joining in, the center continues to grow as a regional leader in preparing the next generation of innovators.

INVENTION CONVENTION ALABAMA: Inspiring the Next Generation of Inventors
Nearly 200 educators across the state are now trained to bring invention education to their classrooms, thanks to this year’s Invention Convention Alabama (ICA) Professional Development sessions. By equipping teachers with strategies, resources, and hands-on tools, ICA is preparing Alabama students to think creatively, solve real-world problems, and become the inventors of tomorrow.
Be Part of the 2025–2026 Program
Schools across Alabama are invited to participate in Invention Convention Alabama during the upcoming school year. Educators who wish to get involved should complete the ICA Teacher Application 2025 by Friday, September 12, 2025. The application gathers key information about teachers and schools to ensure that ICA can provide the best support possible for educators and their young inventors.
