MCA & MTAS Testing 2023-2024
Each spring, the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) or the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS) are provided to students in mathematics (grades 3-8 and 11), reading (grades 3-8 and 10), and science (grades 5, 8 and in high school upon completing biology). Most students take the MCA; however, some students who receive special education services and meet eligibility requirements take the MTAS. Both tests provide a snapshot of student learning of the Minnesota Academic Standards. The MCA and MTAS are used to meet federal and state legislative requirements. The Minnesota Department of Education and SPPS can use results to look across student groups, schools and districts to evaluate equitable learning opportunities for all students.
Assessments are designed to provide information about student learning, but there is no single assessment that can provide the full perspective of what a student has learned. These assessments provide one data point that should be considered in the context of additional evidence of student learning.
Students will take the MCA or MTAS between March 4 - May 10, 2024. If you have questions about your student’s participation in statewide assessments, reach out to your school’s school assessment coordinator.

What will you do? Help sell spirit wear. You may also help set up or put away the spritwear during the time. It's a fun way to meet people in and around our Como community.

Great Things Happening at Como
The MCJROTC cadets were introduced to the sport of Polo. MCJROTC Polo is a ball game that is played on bicycles, a traditional field sport and one of the world's oldest known team sports. The game is played by two opposing teams with the objective of scoring using broom ball sticks as mallets to hit a soccer ball through the opposing team's goal. Although they found it challenging, it was a real hoot. Semper fidelis!
Ooh La La. Again Junior Cadet Corporal Samuel Hunt gets the opportunity to demonstrate his Color Guard Team at the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament in front of thousands of patrons at the Saint Paul Excel Energy Center. Great job team!
In MCJROTC news. Humbled by their win and grateful to Central Campus High School MCJROTC for hosting the competition this weekend, the cadets truly found out that with victory comes the true meaning of a teamwork amongst each other. Their clean sweep close order drill victory this past weekend at the Central Campus High School in Iowa was a result of hard work and their good order & discipline. Their bond with our Iowa neighbors to the south is priceless. Congratulations!
Five Como band students were nominated and accepted into the 2024 St. Thomas High School Honor Band on Monday, March 4th! They spent the day making music with other skilled high school musicians in MN, working with St. Thomas students and faculty, and guest conductor Simão Francisco, Conductor of the Orquestra Sinfónica Thomar of Portugal. The day concluded with a concert in the St. Thomas student center. Ms. Miller is proud of your dedication towards music and excellence! Way to go!
Congratulations to our Como Robotics Team! They made it to the semifinals and placed 16 out of 55 schools! So proud!
