CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston
Dear Coyote Families,
Weâve had another incredible week at Canyon View filled with community and discovery! Our Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success, and it was wonderful to see so many families at our special evening event on Tuesday to browse the shelves and enjoy the beautiful performance by our Coyote Choir. On Thursday, our students immersed themselves in Theatre Arts during our 8th VAPA Day of the year. We also spent the week honoring National School Counseling Week; we are so grateful for Mrs. Jill Cedillo and the vital support she provides our students every day.
I am also thrilled to share some very special news: we have officially announced our Classified Employee of the Year, Crystal Jenkins! Crystal is a dedicated Special Education IA-II who brings heart and dedication to our campus every day. Please scroll down to learn more about how Crystal makes a difference for our students at Canyon View.
We have a fantastic week to look forward to, starting with our School Site Council (SSC) meeting on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, we are excited to welcome the Westview Ambassadors to campus for a fun-filled Playground Playdate with our students. We will gather Wednesday morning for our Character Counts Assembly focused on Responsibility, which will feature a special preview performance by our First Grade Choral Music students. This leads into Thursday, when our First Grade will host their formal parent choral music performance. We will wrap up the week on Friday with a PTO Dine-Out at Panda Express a great way to support our school while enjoying a meal together!
Letâs make it a GREAT week!
Warmly,
Erica Edmonston

CATCHING UP WITH... Important Run Club Updates
đââď¸CVES Run Club - Permission Slip and Registration Now Required
We know how much our students love hitting the lower track to start their day! To ensure Run Club remains a safe, sustainable, and high-quality program for our 1stâ5th graders, we are updating our structure and management. As a reminder, Run Club is a Foundation-sponsored program managed by dedicated volunteers, not CVES or PUSD staff. To align with safety and administrative best practices, we are implementing the following updates:
đ New Requirements for Participation
Starting February 23, 2026, all participating students must have a completed digital permission slip on file. This new registration process includes:
Parental Permission: Acknowledging the program is supervised by CV Foundation volunteers.
CARES Code of Conduct: Students must adhere to the Canyon View CARES standards to participate.
Liability Waiver: Required for all Foundation-sponsored activities.
Action Required: Please complete the digital permission slip for each of your participating students before February 23: đ Register for Run Club Here
đ¤ We Need You!
The success of Run Club depends entirely on our community. To operate each morning, we require at least two volunteers with Level 2 clearance. If we do not have enough cleared volunteers, we cannot open the track. If you have 20 minutes before the school bell rings, please consider helping our students reach their next lap milestone! Interested in helping? You can indicate your availability directly on the registration form linked above, or scroll down to see the Volunteer Flyer included in this newsletter for more details.
*Participation in Run Club is voluntary and not required
Celbrating Crystal Jenkins - CVES Classified Employee of the Year
We are so proud to announce that Crystal Jenkins, a Special Education IA-II in our Extensive Supports program, has been named the Canyon View Elementary Classified Employee of the Year. In her two years on campus, Crystal has earned the deep respect of her colleagues and the hearts of her students through her tireless work ethic and her ability to handle one of the most vital roles at our school with constant grace and a positive attitude.
Crystal is the ultimate team player, known for her quiet dedication and her habit of stepping in to help whenever a student or staff member needs a hand. Above all, she provides the kind of patient, caring, and loving support that ensures our students with the highest needs feel safe, heard, and valued every single day. Her compassionate demeanor and steady presence are a gift to our entire school community. We are incredibly lucky to have her on our team, and we invite you to join us in celebrating this well-deserved honor for such a dedicated educator.

Take-Home Meals for Students Fasting for Ramadan-Deadline to Register Extended
The USDA approved Californiaâs request to allow students fasting during Ramadan to take school meals home. Between February 23 and March 19, 2026, PUSD students who are fasting for Ramadan may pick up bagged, shelf-stable meals from their school cafeteria during the meal period, and bring them home for later. Parents/guardians must pre-register students for this option. Meals will be limited to foods and beverages that do not require refrigeration, so variety will be limited. Pre-registered students can choose to either eat the regular meals offered at school, or take home bagged meals for later, but not both.

Garden Volunteers Needed
This is a fun, flexible way to get involved. Volunteers will:
- Present short, hands-on garden lessons (about 20 minutes) to students.
- No experience necessary! You don't need to be a garden pro or a certified teacher! We provide the materials.
- The days and times are flexible and will be coordinated individually with you and the teachers.
- All volunteers must be cleared through the school/district system. We'd love to have Level 2 volunteers who are cleared to work independently with groups, but we can happily accommodate Level 1 volunteers as well!
Interested in helping our school garden thrive? Contact Terri at terri.l.lane@gmail.com or call 619-861-6427.

Blizzard, written & illustrated by John Rocco
Other parts of the country can experience very challenging conditions during winter time. While we watch the current weather drama from afar in San Diego, it can be exciting to read about snow adventures, especially from a kidâs perspective. (Some CVES classes enjoyed a read aloud of this book recently in the Library, but itâs worth sharing with your family!)
Interested in Visiting or Volunteering at Canyon View?
We love our volunteers! To get started, complete the Level 1 Volunteer Application for Canyon View Elementary at bit.ly/CVESVolunteer or click here (includes TB clearance and Meganâs Law check).
Some rolesâlike coaching, robotics, or working with students unsupervisedârequire Level 2 clearance. To obtain or renew Level 2 status, complete the Level 1 steps first, then request a Level 2 form from our office and complete fingerprinting at the PUSD District Office.
If you are visiting campus for a short timeâsuch as attending an assembly, performance, class party or meetingâyou do not need to register as a volunteer; simply check in at the front office as a visitor. Classroom visitors need to be scheduled in advance with both the office and the classroom teacher.
