From the Principal's Desk
Dear SHS Families,
It was a happy Halloween week this week. First, thank you to all the parents who participated in making trunk-or-treat as much fun as it was. There were so many creative costumes and trunks, and fun was had by all who attended. Halloween parties were an absolute smash, and for our 3rd/4th graders, who were smashing a pinata on the playground. Thank you to all the room parents who brought in bingo, bowling, limbo, pickleball, and more to make those parties so much fun for our students.
On Monday, October 28th, Teachers and staff were also led by OPD and the Franklin Sheriff’s Department in emergency situation training to help us better react in emergencies. I stayed after training and spoke with the officers a little bit more about things that we can be doing to help improve in this regard. I will be having further conversations with school staff, Father, and various parish councils about things we can consider and possible courses of action. Expect any changes in procedures or routines to be communicated directly out of the school and/or church office.
The beginning of November means that I have submitted my October School report to the Parish. Copies of the report will be in the narthex area of the church after all Masses this weekend and will be available all November upon request from the school office.
November 9th is the Ottawa Veteran’s Day Parade. SHS will have a float again this year. If your student is interested in riding the SHS float, stay tuned for more details to come out next week.
This week ended with All Saints Day. At morning opening today I spoke with students about how we look at actors, athletes, and musicians as role models because of how impressed we are by their physical, mental, or artistic achievements. I then challenged the students to look at the saints as their spiritual role models using some of their achievements as examples. Is there a saint in your family’s or child’s life that inspires them to spiritual greatness? I encourage you to explore the lives of the saints with your children to help inspire them to seek that place in their Heavenly home.
With Faith & Hope,
Patrick (P.J.) Greer
