Student Dress Code - Updated
Please review the updated Student Dress Code below to ensure student's are appropriately dressed for school each day.
At Steelton-Highspire School District, we believe students should dress comfortably and appropriately for a focused and respectful learning environment. These guidelines help everyone stay safe, confident and distraction-free.
- Transparent or immodest clothing which attracts undue attention may not be worn.
- No midriff or underwear may be visible.
- The hemline of all shorts, skirts, and skorts must extend below your fingertips when arms are held straight at your sides.
- Small headbands and barrettes may be worn for the purpose of restraining hair. Hats, sunglasses, bandannas, or head coverings of any type are not permitted. (Hats will be permitted on administratively sanctioned “Hat Days”.) Ski masks, bonnets, and hoods are not permitted.
- Shoes must be worn at all times. (Flip flops, slides and platform shoes are prohibited due to the potential for injury.)
- Any clothing that presents a safety hazard or interferes with the educational process will not be allowed.
- Coats, gloves and jackets must be kept in coat rack/locker areas during instructional time. Exceptions to this rule may be made by the administration or the classroom teacher.
- Clothing with slogans/pictures displaying or suggesting the use of tobacco, weapons, alcohol, drugs, obscene language, sexual innuendos, lewd or illegal behavior or which is derogatory to any person/group for reasons of race, religion, disability, age, gender, national origin or sexual orientation in violation of civil rights laws prohibiting harassment or discrimination is not permitted.
- Clothing with ornamentation that will scratch or mark furniture or presents possible danger of injury to the wearer or others (chains, spiked wristbands, studded bracelets or belts) may not be worn.
- Pajamas (including pajama bottoms/pants) are not permitted.
- Small purses will be allowed.
Students not abiding by this dress code will be required to change into an appropriate outfit utilizing the items on hand at school, or if necessary, parents will be called to bring appropriate clothing so that the student may resume their regular schedule. Our dress code is designed to promote a safe, inclusive and respectful environment. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
Questions regarding student dress code guidelines may be directed to building administration.

Elementary Awarded $5,000 Dollar General Literacy Grant
We are excited to share that Mrs. Moll, our elementary reading specialist, successfully applied for and received a $5,000 Youth Literacy Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation!
This grant will be used to provide classrooms with decodable books and other valuable literacy resources to support teachers and strengthen student learning.
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation awards Youth Literacy Grants to schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations that serve K–12 students who are reading below grade level or experiencing difficulties with literacy. Funding can be used to:
-
Implement new or expand existing literacy programs
-
Purchase new technology or equipment to support literacy initiatives
-
Purchase books, materials, or software for literacy programs
We are proud of Mrs. Moll’s efforts to bring these resources to our students and teachers, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact this grant will have in classrooms across our school.
The Science of Cooking: A Tasty New Elective
The High School Science Department is excited to introduce a new elective: Science of Cooking. Many students often say they don’t see how subjects like chemistry or physics connect to their everyday lives. This course, developed and taught by Mrs. Dietz, is designed to change that perspective by showing how everyday activities—like cooking—are grounded in science. Students will discover the chemistry, physics, and problem-solving skills that shape what happens in the kitchen and beyond.
Teamwork in Action!
This week, Mrs. Donnelly’s class took on the Cup Challenge—a fun activity designed to build teamwork and problem-solving skills. Students worked together using only strings and a rubber band to stack cups into a pyramid. It wasn’t easy at first, but with patience, communication, and collaboration, they were able to succeed! It was wonderful to see them encouraging each other and celebrating their progress along the way.
Building Connections Through SEL
In Mrs. Smith’s Personal Finance and Geometry classes, students started the year with a special Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) activity. Around the classroom, students are responding to eight sentence starters designed to help them reflect and share more about themselves, both socially and academically.
This activity allows students to share their thoughts anonymously, creating a safe and open space without fear of judgment. It also gives Mrs. Smith valuable insight into her students’ needs, goals, and perspectives before diving into lessons for the year.
Some of the prompts include:
-
“One of my areas of strength/weakness in math class is…”
-
“I want to earn my high school diploma because…”
-
“The most effective teachers are the ones who…”
Students enjoyed the opportunity to share openly and learn more about themselves as they begin the new school year.

Steelton-Highspire Stadium Revitalization Project
In May of 2025, the Steelton-Highspire School District, in partnership with the Roller Nation Foundation and On Hill Development LLC, announced a bold plan to transform the district’s historic stadium into a Community Education, Career, Health & Wellness Hub.
The project will unfold in three phases:
Phase I: New turf field, sound system, stadium lights, drainage, and preparation for a six-lane track.
Phase II: ADA-compliant bleachers, classrooms, press box, restrooms, and a community kitchen.
Phase III: A full-service center with childcare, STEM labs, career training, fitness, counseling, adult learning, and more.
The revitalization has drawn strong support from alumni including Jordan Hill, David Sullivan, and Troy Drayton, who see the project as both a legacy investment and a way to expand opportunities for students and families.
The district is actively seeking funding through state and federal grants, foundations, sponsorships, and community partnerships.
