A little BUZZ from the principal
Dino Day and a BIG THANK YOU!
Dear Families,
This coming Tuesday is HIGH ATTENDANCE DAY in the state of Kentucky. We are in a contest for attendance and currently in 2nd place out of four schools we are competing with. WE WANT TO WIN! Help us by making sure your child is AT SCHOOL ON TUESDAY and ON TIME. Our average attendance has been around 94%. Help us KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK AT 96% or higher! Unless your child is contagious, we want EVERYONE to be at school! We are encouraging everyone to wear DINOSAUR attire or accessories, as attending school is DINO-MITE!
WOW!!!!!!!! Thank you, NPES families!!!!! We have never raised so much for a fundraiser for our students - $15,000!!!!!
With that money, we are planning:
- School wide trip to Corydon, Indiana HUGE playground/naturescape play area
- Monthly PBIS rewards for preschool + kindergarten (this month is ice cream)
- Steel drums for the music classroom/drum club
- Yoga and other mindfulness materials for library/mindfulness club
- Supplies for Art
- Kinder graduation expenses
- Tiny Trojan store prizes
- And more!
Thank you for your purchases from the Spirit Store! We raised almost $500 from that sale as well. The company should deliver those in about 2 weeks or less.
Sign up for our GRANDPARENT/ICE CREAM SOCIAL by Tuesday. Info is noted further down in the newsletter.
We finish our kindergarten iReady testing this week. This gives us an initial snapshot of each student so we know how to tailor instruction to individual needs. Kindergarten teachers also sent home mid-terms to help you know what your child has been working on so far and what was expected for them to "master" or "demonstrate" this point in the first quarter. You are always welcome to reach out to the teacher or schedule a conference to get more information. We love keeping our families informed, so you are never bothering anyone to ask questions or ask for a discussion.
If you need assistance with the app in any way, please call the NPES office at 270-351-4464 or email laurabeth.hayes@hardin.kyschools.us
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hayes (principal)
Grandparent Ice Cream Socials
Sign Up Today!
REGISTRATION CLOSES ON TUESDAY at 10:00 AM!
NPES Families - our Grandparent Ice Cream Socials are coming up in September! This is a special event for grandparents (or adults who function like a grandparent). Please see the link for dates, more info and to register so we can purchase materials. Note that there is an assigned day and time depending on your child's teacher.
**TWO-DAY and THREE-DAY STUDENTS MAY COME TO THE SCHOOL FOR THE EVENT IF YOUR ASSIGNED DAY IS NOT ON YOUR CHILD'S DAY TO ATTEND SCHOOL. It is nearly impossible for us to accommodate the three preschool schedules when we plan events, so we do always try to give families the option to come participate when it is appropriate or we are able to do so. We do not have staffing to do the division a different way on the day(s) of the event and stay in ratio. There may be some things our two-day Tiny Trojans miss throughout the year; please know you can look forward to those special events the next year or in kindergarten!

Please note that our lunch menu will sometimes differ from what is listed due to availability of items and delivery dates to our school sometimes being different. All students may eat breakfast and lunch for FREE.
Reading Tree at NPES
Let's fill our reading tree this month!
Our reading tree was off to a great start in August. However, we had a LOT of branches with room to fill. Let's FILL THE BRANCHES IN SEPTEMBER! The September reading tree leaves will be coming home, and you can print out from the link below as well! READ TOGETHER AS A FAMILY!
Week At-a-Glance
Important Form to Complete for ALL Families!
All students will have access to a free breakfast and a free lunch again this school year. However, each family is still required to complete a Household Income Form to maintain accurate data as a requirement for state and federal funding. If this information is not collected accurately, Family Resource Centers, Youth Service Centers and instructional resources are in jeopardy of losing essential funding.
Please fill out even if your family does not qualify. It does not take long at all.
The form is available by CLICKING HERE. Free lunches are provided through a program called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). Its continuation is dependent on the number of school meals served. HCS encourages all students to participate in school lunch and school breakfast as much as possible!
Save the Date!
School picture days will be October 1st and October 2nd. More info to come!

Let's IMPROVE our Attendance!
Each week, we have consistently had the lowest attendance in the district for elementary schools. Let's work hard to IMPROVE. Students should be at school unless they are contagious or feeling too sick to participate. We definitely want to reduce our tardies. Let's all get to school this week and on time!
