WHO MUST COMPLETE GT PROFESSIONAL LEARNING? WHO MUST COMPLETE GT PROFESSIONAL LEARNING?

All K-5 classroom teachers, all 6-12 core teachers, and all special education teachers are required to complete the initial Gifted and Talented Foundational 30 hour training course within one semester of working with students. This course is also referred to as the GT Core 30.

If you completed your GT Core 30 in another district, please submit your certificate and proof of yearly 6 hour GT updates in Strive. Please ensure your professional learning portfolio in Strive reflects your completion of the GT 30 hours.

Beginning Teachers [Y1 & Y2] and Teachers who are completing the TEA Reading Academies will have one full school year to complete the Gifted and Talented Core 30.

The GT Core 30 is comprised of 5 Parts:

Part 1: Nature & Needs

Part 2: Identification, Assessment & Service Design

Part 3: Depth & Complexity/ Strategies for Instruction

Part 4: Models of Differentiation (or any GT topic approved by LEISD)

Part 5: Advanced Products and Performances (or any GT topic approved by LEISD)

Once the initial GT Core 30 course is complete, educators must update their learning yearly with a district approved 6 hour GT update.
