Coquina Connection
September 2025 Edition
Meet Our New School Resource Officer
At Coquina Elementary, we are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all of our students. As part of this effort, we are pleased to introduce Officer Jonathan Ramos, our new School Resource Officer from the Titusville Police Department.
Officer Ramos will be present on campus each day, working closely with our staff to support school safety and contribute to a positive learning environment. In addition to his role in safety, Officer Ramos will also take time to build meaningful relationships with students through classroom visits, friendly conversations, and participation in school activities.
The role of a School Resource Officer is not only focused on safety, but also on fostering trust, encouraging mutual respect, and helping students feel connected and supported. We are glad to welcome Officer Ramos to the Coquina Elementary team and are confident that his presence will have a positive impact on our school community.
Car Rider Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
In order to ensure the continued safety of our students, staff, and families, we all must follow the car loop procedures:
- All vehicles must enter the car loop making a right-hand turn from Jupiter Avenue (southbound direction).
- When exiting the parking lot, all vehicles will be required to make a right-hand turn and proceed south on Jupiter Avenue.
- There is no saving spots for other families to enter the car loop at Maple Place
- The front loop of the school is for bus rider and day care drop off only. Students are not allowed dropped off in the front parking lot. Use the car loop!
These adjustments are designed to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and create a safer environment for student drop-off and pick-up. Many of you have been asking why the car line is taking so long this school year. Coquina in previous years was dismissing Kindergarten and VPK students among with some daycare vans riders as early as 2:10 pm. We required to follow the instructional hours of 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Fridays. Please keep in mind that we provide bell to bell instruction and late arrival to school and early pick ups impacts your child's learning.
Partner with Us – Become a SAC Member!
We are looking for members to join our School Advisory Council (SAC)! SAC is a group of parents, teachers, students, school staff, and community members who work together to help improve our school. SAC meets to talk about the school’s academic goals and progress. They help create the School Improvement Plan, which sets goals to help students do better. The group also helps the principal decide how to spend school funds. We will send out monthly meeting dates soon to those who are interested. SAC meetings follow Florida Sunshine Laws, which means a quorum of 51% of non-school members must be present in person to make decisions. Some members can join online if enough people are at the meeting. If you want to learn more or join, please email Mrs. Stanton at Stanton.carissa@brevardschools.org.

Student Accident Insurance
The FortifyFL app is a suspicious activity reporting tool that allows anyone to instantly relay information to law enforcement and school officials. Students, staff, families, and members of the community can use the app to report school safety concerns anonymously and easily. The SpeakOut Hotline (800) 423-TIPS is designed to help you anonymously report any threatening behavior or situation that endangers you, your friends, family, community, or your school campus. Reporting isn't "snitching,” reporting is when you need to keep yourself or someone you know safe from threats, harmful behaviors, or dangerous situations.
