Mitch's Memo Mitch's Memo

By the numbers!

1. $38,000.00 = The minimum salary the Governor wants paid to starting teachers in Missouri. The base salary at West Nodaway R-I is presently $32,200.00.

2. 19 = The number of positions we have reduced at West Nodaway over the past few years in order to correct budget shortfalls.

3. $1.00 = The amount of increase the Board is asking the voters to approve on the levy at the April election.

4. $238,924.00 = The amount of additional dollars the $1.00 levy increase would generate after passage the first year.

5. $44,522.37 = The minimum present cost of a first year teacher to the district.

And the numbers go on and on and on! If you have any questions about the numbers, let me know.

Thanks,

Dr. Barnes

April 6th Levy Information April 6th Levy Information

Below you will find the language that will be on the ballot for the levy consideration in the April election. This will be the 3rd time we have ran the levy. Rather than going away the need to pass the levy continues to mount. I am happy to have this discussion with anyone who has any questions.

PROPOSITION 2

Shall the Board of Education of the West Nodaway County R-I School District, Missouri, be authorized to increase the operating tax levy by $1.0000 to $4.5811 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation for the purpose of meeting the additional operating needs of the school district?

(If this proposition is approved, the adjusted operating tax levy of the District is estimated to increase by $1.0000 from $3.5811, currently, to $4.5811 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation and will be applied to the assessed valuation in Tax Year 2022 and each year thereafter.)

Elementary News Elementary News

Hello again, Rocket family!

We had a fun February in the elementary building. We celebrated Valentine's Day the same week as our spirit week for our elementary basketball tournament. I would like to say "Thank You" to all of those who helped to make the elementary tournament a success. We finished off the week with a pep assembly, which was completely planned and ran by our elementary student council. Great job, STUCO! They even allowed me to fulfill a lifelong dream of riding a roller coaster with the entire student body.

In March, we have Parent Teacher Conferences on the 2nd. These conferences are by appointment only, and teachers have reached out to schedule times. If you would like to request a conference, please contact the school, and we will make sure to get you a time. Our 3rd quarter ends on Friday, March 11th, and we will be sending home report cards and progress reports the following week.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to the classroom teachers or myself, and we would be more than willing to help you out.

Thank you,

Mr. Conn

Greetings All,

The winter sports seasons concluded with our boys basketball team going out in the first round of districts and our girls team playing for the district title. Congratulations to both teams on the conclusion of your season. While it seems impossible, we could be mowing grass soon. Last year, the first time I mowed grass was in March. Time sure does seem to fly. Yesterday was the start of the spring sports seasons. It looked like there were many students out for both baseball and track.

Tomorrow, March 2nd, we will hold spring parent-teacher conferences. I want to encourage all parents/guardians to stop by and see your student's teachers from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The third quarter will come to a conclusion on March 11th.

As I am sure you are aware by now, the Board of Education voted to move to a four-day school week next year. We are presently making plans for this transition. If you have any questions in this regard, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Go Rockets/Thunder!

Nurse's News Nurse's News

We wrapped up our Kids' Heart Challenge in PE and fitness. Mr. Calfee, Mr. Shipley, and I joined together to do some fun heart-healthy activities. Thank you for your help with raising money for such a great organization - American Heart Association. We were able to raise nearly $200 this year.

We have Kids-Sight eye program scheduled to come see our younger students on March 11th. We plan to see PreK, Kindergarten and 1st grade students. This is a photo-screening program that looks at our students' eyesight through a special lens. Last year, this program was very successful, and we caught some early visual problems that our routine screenings had missed. We are excited to offer this program, but if you don't want your child screened, please reach out to me! We will follow up if we detect any potential problems.

Spring is always busy finishing up our year! We will be completing student CPR with our seniors, we'll offer an immunization clinic for next year's immunizations, and our traveling dentist will be making another visit, so keep an eye out for upcoming events!
