Standards & Chapter 4 Updates
CEW Standards
CEW Standards are approved by the Board. They are still going through regulatory process. Information on CEW Standards can be found here: CLICK HERE
Personal Finance
What certifications will be qualified to teach the new Financial Literacy content?
Certification and Staffing Policy Guidelines (CSPG) that pertain to economic education/financial literacy certification, and course assignment include: CSPG 33 - Business, Computer and Information Technology; CSPG 35 - Citizenship Education; CSPG 44 - Family and Consumer Sciences; CSPG 49 - Marketing/Distributive Education; CSPG 50 - Mathematics; and CSPG 59 - Social Studies.
Updates (approved, but not published until around December)
π²Must be a STAND-ALONE course. (Economics and Finance is not 1 course, but you can do 1/2 course Economics and 1/2 course Personal Finance, but they must be named separately).
π²Flexibility:
π°Can do micro-courses (.25 credit one year .25 credits another year)
π°Can provide varied levels of personal finance (honors/advanced/Financial Algebra, which can also double as a math credit)
π°Does NOT need to be named "Personal Finance" as that is a local decision.
π²Recommended course #19262 Consumer Economics/Personal Finance
π²Must be at least .5 credit
π²Middle school courses do not count. Must be grades 9-12
π²Cannot test out- mandatory for all.
π²Required for public and non-public schools. (additionally, LEAs that send to CTCs are responsible for ensuring the course requirement has been met)
Implementation clarification for graduation requirements: LEAs are expected to have the course requirement implemented by 26.27, with flexibility on when it's offered 9th-12th.
