Tuscan School April 19th Reopening for Grades K-2 & Multi-subject POR program across all grade levels

Dear Tuscan Family~

On Monday, April 19, 2021, our district’s phased in approach to reopening schools expands opportunities for a greater number of students to attend Tuscan in person. Please know that at Tuscan School our commitment to all of our students is unwavering. Our attention and focus will be given to the needs of all of our students attending Tuscan both virtually and in person. Technology is required for attending school in person as the mode of instructional delivery will remain the same at this time.

If Your Child Is Approved for Hybrid

If your child is approved for hybrid and you prefer for your child to remain virtual on any day or for any number of days, please email your child’s teacher and TuscanASAP@somsd.k12.nj.us.

These are extremely fluid times for our school district and the Tuscan School Hybrid Reopening Guide will be updated as needed in accordance with our district’s phased in approach to reopening schools. Updates and/or revisions to the Tuscan School Hybrid Reopening Guide will be announced in the Tuscan Tidings Newsletter.

Parents/guardians of incoming “new to hybrid” students

  • Please carefully read the Tuscan School Hybrid Reopening Guide for Tuscan School Arrival and Dismissal procedures and practices and other essential information about your child’s return to school.

  • Please remember to send your child to school with an appropriate face mask (pack 1- 2 extra face masks for your child), hand sanitizer (if you'd like) and a water bottle. [Click the following link to view District requirements for face masks: bit.ly/SOMSDFAQs]

  • If you are seeking resources to assist with supporting your child’s transition to attending school in person please review Ms. Popp’s curated list of Back to School Social Emotional Learning Resources which can be found in this week's edition of the Tuscan Tidings.

We are returning to classrooms that were already in use and therefore mutually agreed upon by our school district and SOMEA. A facilities update for Tuscan will be shared in the Tuscan Tidings as we move closer to Phase 5 readiness and the use of significantly more instructional spaces to expand the roll out of in-person hybrid instruction for Grades 3 – 5.

We appreciate your outstanding work in support of teaching and learning and your voice and insights are highly valued. Please know that we deeply care and we are concern about the health, safety and well-being of our Tuscan family. We invite and welcome parent involvement. If you have any questions or concerns about any aspect of your child’s Tuscan experience, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or ROARforTuscan@somsd.k12.nj.us.

Until next time, be well and stay safe!

~Ms. Majeed

CONTACT TRACING IN THE SCHOOL SETTING

The SOMSD school nurses developed a chart to summarize the response to COVID+ activity in the school community and to provide clarification on school notification procedures.

When a SOMSD staff member or student tests positive for COVID-19, it is the responsibility of that staff member or the parent of the student to notify the principal who notifies the superintendent. The respective local Department of Health (DOH) – South Orange or Maplewood - will be notified immediately. The local DOH, who receives the actual lab report, conducts Contact Tracing. Based on the circumstances of each case, the local DOH provides the District with guidance as to the appropriate and timely notification of staff and families of a confirmed case while maintaining confidentiality.
