Principal's Message

Hi Boulevard Team,

I hope you are enjoying your weekend. Here is a look ahead for the week:

Thank you for a successful testing week. Your preparation and support made a difference for our students, and it showed. As we continue testing, please be sure to send Dojo messages to families if their students will be testing. I will also send a robo call to families the day before as an additional reminder.

Food Services is requesting that all students in grades 3–5 complete a brief survey about breakfast and lunch satisfaction. Please post the survey link in your Google Classroom so students can complete it. The survey will remain active through April 17th.

As an incentive, schools that reach 15% student participation will receive a special treat on April 24th. If we reach 20% or more, we will earn an upgraded treat—so let’s aim high and encourage participation!

Looking forward to a productive week ahead.

Thank you for all that you do each day to support our students and families.

Best,

Joi

During walkthroughs, I will be looking for evidence of:

  • Students using student workbooks and HQIM resources

  • Student engagement

  • Students knowing the learning targets and success criteria

Chronic Absences Chronic Absences

We will continue to focus on students who impact our end of the year chronic rates. In March, we focused on students who were 8-15% chronic, hoping to slow their attendance rates and keep them below the end of the year threshold. In April, our focus will be students who are 8-13% chronic, as those who are in the 13.1-18%+ range have met the end of year threshold.

Boulevard's Chronic absent rate is at 33.3%!!! This is the lowest rate Boulevard has been at since January 23rd. Shout out to all of you for encouraging your students to come to school. It is making a difference.

Zearn Grades 4-5 Zearn Grades 4-5

Looking for ways to strengthen students’ understanding of key math standards? New resources are being added to the Resources by Standards document to support instruction across grades 4–5

Learning by Example

MathByExample assignments are designed to deepen conceptual understanding by having students analyze worked examples, both correct and incorrect. These tasks go beyond a typical ‘find the error’ worksheet, students are asked to explain why reasoning is correct or incorrect, justify their thinking, and engage in meaningful mathematical argumentation. Rather than focusing only on getting the right answer, this approach builds deeper understanding and has been shown through research to significantly improve learning, especially for students who need additional support.

These resources are available for Gr 4-5, Algebra & Geometry and are currently being organized by standard and added to our Resources by Standards document.
